Question: Is there a patch that allows a PowerTracks (or RealBand) display chord symbols?

First, it is important to understand that MIDI files do not have a standard for chord data and that the chords you see inside BiaB are extrapolated from the note data in the MIDI file by the BiaB Wizard. Great little option, but often confuses people into thinking that the MIDI file itself has the Chord Data in it. There are some Chord Data schemes out there, but there is no standard to it and some are proprietary to the company that does them, others are getting more popular, maybe in future there will be a MIDI Standard for chord data, meanwhile we have what we have.

PowerTracks and RB can indeed extrapolate the chords from a MIDI file, in the same fashion that BB will -- but I don't think that RB has the ability to place those chords on the autoaccomaniment Chord Grid, which you don't need anyway to just play the MIDI file. Same thing as Disabling the Style in BB, you wouldn't want a separate autoaccompaniment going on while that MIDI file is playing all of its own notes. Check the Notation View in Powertracks and RB for the chords it finds.

Question: can you play midi files in BIAB with the same record as PowerTracks?

Yes.

What you want is to simply load and play the MIDI, without any Style file for autoaccompaniment playing along with it.

Just RightClick on the Style name in the Stylepicker slot and choose, Disable Style. This can only be seen once a MIDI file has been loaded to the BiaB Melody Track SEQ sequencer. Once Disabled, the style should have an "X" in front of its name to indicate that none of the autoaccompaniment tracks (Bass, Drums, Piano, Guit, etc.) will play when the MIDI file is played back.
