hey guys i need help.. deadline..
all of sudden the compressor audio effect wont render . i get a disk error message.. i cant edit any track with it.. the reverb and gain changes work ok
i've rebooted and..all that jazz
im running on vista with pt 9

Is the track 16 bit? I think some of the effects in the edit pulldown only work for 16 bit.
Upgrading to current version is recommended for such a newer machine. Realtime effects will work for 24 bit, etc.
Not sure if PT9 had the realtime FX, if so try
edit-audio effects-realtime DX FX path to get to the compressor (just might work)
Otherwise re-run the PGEffects installer which is an executable in the PT folder if you want to try to re-install the effects.
This may cause you to lose some presets if previously saved (I'm not sure)
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

That is a *very* old PT version. It was developed long before Vista.
29$ gets you the PT12 upgrade, which may be the fastest solve for this problem, be sure to specify the electronic delivery for download at purchase, then download and install PT12.

thanks for the input
am definitely looking to upgrade..
i figured out what i did ... i highlighted a group of tracks and applied an effect to all of it and so it cant "undo" or do something else cuz it cant unravel itself
does the never versions allow you to do that .. highlight multiple tracks apply the same effect and can still be separately edited

This sounds like it may be a consolidation issue.
Select the track,
make from-thru say 1-1-0 thru 1000-1-0 (select the whole track)
Use 'Track - consolidate audio region'
This should fix it.
The older effects sometimes struggle when parts of the tracks have been processed and others are not, leaving the track laying in chunks on the hard drive.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

When I still had 9 and Vista, I created a seq one night that worked fine.. Next night it wouldn't even load. Upgraded to 12 and it works fine. 12 has a lot of improvements.
