Here's what I do:

a) Assuming that the song is intended to be in 100 BPM, I set the BPM to 200.
b) Set the drum track to half the set tempo ( = the correct, intended tempo).
c) Do so also for selected other tracks, that does not necessarily have to have 8 chords per bar (bass? loops?)
d) Let the instruments that indeed will have more than 4 cords/bar remain at full tempo
e) In many cases, make a second track with the same instrument but playing half the set tempo ( = the correct, intended tempo)
f) After exporting to DAW, use the full tempo (fast) tracks only for those parts of the song that indeed use >4 chords per bar (which probably will not be all of the song, unless you are Frank Zappa or a jazz freak).
For other parts of the song, use the tracks set to half tempo.

Good luck!
