Question: I was under the impression that PCI had better delay performance than USBs, even when using ASIO. The reason, I recall was because of the PC's process scheme of the USB I/o process v.s. the PCI bus input. This is not or no longer true?

To try to answer your question directly, "It is no longer true for many of today's motherboards but you still may encounter a situation where a mfr has implemented the older methodology.

USB 2.0 works a lot better than the older USB 1.1 for this purpose.

However, a LOT of motherboards, for both desktop and laptop, still come equipped with most of the USB ports being USB 1.1 - and often have only ONE USB port that is actually USB 2.0.

So you have to find the right USB port to plug in your audio device, and once found, you must always plug it into that port for the good results to happen.

Taking a look at your IRQ table may be able to sort that out fast, depending.

The dirty little secret is that USB ports ARE on the PCI buss.
