UPSIDE DOWN

This song is a result of seeing all the distressing things going on in our society today. As a person who grew up the 60's and 70's, I hardly recognize the world we live in. These words are just a few thoughts that have come into my mind this week. I had intended to take a short break from the forum to deal with some other musical projects that I needed to take care of, but you all know how it is when inspiration strikes. This is my first project working inside of BIAB 2022 (I really like it) and my first time working with the drum stems. I think once we get a handle on using them, our sound quality will dramatically increase on the drums. I still have much to learn about them. My hope is that you all feel it was worth your time to listen! Thanks, T

Upside Down
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss ©2022

Looking out my window up to the sky
Will the fire rain down on us today
I'm feeling weak how can I stop it now
I'm gonna have to go and find some faith
People clinging to their power
Could end this mess we have right now

This world we live in is turned upside down
What's right is wrong we've come unwound
How did we get here oh we've gone astray
Can't you see we've lost our way

The lust for wealth, an evil legacy
Ensures that peace will not be found
It's in the pulpits and on earthly thrones
Out in the streets and in our homes
The answer given to us long ago
Says love your neighbor as yourself

This world we live in is turned upside down
What's right is wrong we've come unwound
How did we get here oh we've gone astray
Can't you see we've lost our way

Harmonies are a standout. Guitar sounds sweet.

Drum mix is excellence. Sounds great all around.

Catchy pop - love the chorus.

As you said... inspired. smile

Excellent, Torrey!

Love the guitar work and vocals, but most important, the message is right on the money.

Wow... Fabulous. I love this song... Lovely message.
What a performance! Reminds me of Todd Rundgren, and he could not have done any better.
I can't say enough... You've blown me away again, with this excellent production.

Torrey...everything about this is outstanding!...your choice of BiaB components is so right for the message...don't know exactly why but I here Chicago in this...probably in the sophistication of the chords and arrangement...as per usual the vocals are captivating...I wish I could produce harmonies that tight (of coarse I'd need your voice to do that!) and the echo lines are so cool! I'm on my third listen and man WOW...this is so tight!...I'm gonna stop writing and just listen again (my best compliment I hope!)

Torrey,
This is that classic blend of gentle yearning in melody as well as voice countered by the burn/anger/anguish of a cracking solo.
I particularly liked the 2nd verse in which you shared the blame as well as the access to the solution.
You're an ace.

Cheers

Pure class as usual, Torrey. I'm amazed that you've managed to take your anguish about the state of the world and use it to create beautiful music.

Leon

Your creativity is inspirational, Torrey. Your lyrics represent some encouraging thinking. Recognizing the problem often accelerates solution. Man, your guitar has such passion, too. Another terrific song from you. To me the vocal is a bit more out front, but I know your abilities and figure that was your choice. Love those harmonies --as I always do. So professionally done --as you always do.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Torrey,

WOW. THIS might be THE best mix (certainly the best Pop mix) I've ever heard on the forum (and we have a number of truly top-notch mixers here).
I had my speakers turned up pretty loud (from a previous listen). That typically causes some unpleasantness (in typical mixes) - ear-wincing. NOT the case with this. It sounds Great! loud...

Those drums POP! Killer Kick sound (any processing that you can share on that???)
Nice warm sounding piano.
Your guitar is heavenly! LOVE that tone!!

KILLER vocals and harmonies.

Excellent write. Good message.

I've said this many times before - reminds me of the very best of Rundgren.
Could have been a cut off Something/Anything (easily).

One of your best.

Yes indeed.... great work. I agree with Floyd on the quality of this mix.

I got a touch of Todd Rundgren as well as ASIA, and Steely Dan too.... all top quality musicians and bands.

This one is easily in the top 5 songs and mixes I've ever heard here. You can be proud of the work you did on this.

Hello Torrey
Genius song
How you can produce in such a short time over and over again
new songs in this quality is really a mystery to me ;-)))
I find your guitar solos in this song EXTREMELY good.
Great work Torrey
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

Smooth recording. Thrilling lead guitar work. Well written tune and timely too. Good backing band there. I can't put my finger on who this reminds me of but you can bet they are pros, so you are in good company. Nice job on this one.

Hi Torrey.

Wow!

This is stellar listening.

Your production floored me. As soon as I started listening to the the intro, it was clear that this musical journey was going to be outstanding. From start to end, your song radiates "professional" on every level.

Absolutely loved it!

All the best,
Noel

Steely Dan feel to it, definitely (I'm sure I mentioned this before :D).

And that means you delivered another PRO-sounding track!
