I have BiaB 2022 Audiophile Edition Version 198 on Windows 10.
When I try to add or replace an instrument in the Mixer from the RealTracks list, BiaB adds a different patch to the one I selected. The instrument BiaB adds is similar to the one I selected with a different tempo but is not one I want.
I have tried both replacing an existing instrument and adding a new one to a utility track. The instrument I want is shown as being listed and available in the RealTracks list and I have used this several times in other projects.
Why does BiaB insist on this and what can I do to add the one I want?

Thanks. OK, give us some more details. What is the Style you are using? What are the exact steps do you take to choose a different patch (click x, choose y, press Z etc)? What is the tempo of your song? What is the exact name of the RealTrack that you are trying to replace the existing one with? There are usually simple answers to resolve this, but more detail is critical in ascertaining how to move forward. Perhaps the desired different RealTrack is not compatible with the Style, etc.

Audiotrack's questions are good. The more that's known about your process, the easier it is for forum members to visualise and to try and replicate.
In the meantime, though, this might be worth checking out...
By default, BIAB will auto-substitute Realtracks that are outside a pre-defined tempo range. It sounds like this might be what's happening. To disable this...
1) Go to Realtrack preferences.
2) Uncheck "Allow Realtrack Substitution Based on Tempo". It's near the top of the right-hand column.
As a note for anyone reading this who has not come across it in the manual...
BIAB shows which Realtracks have been substituted. On the mixer, if the name begins with "~~", this indicates that BIAB has automatically replaced the Realtrack for one that better suits the song's tempo.
If, however, the name of the mixer begins with "~", this means that there is a Realtrack that's better suited to the song's tempo but it hasn't been automatically substituted.

Don't know I'd this is your problem, but make sure the (presumably RealTrack) instrument you select falls within the tempo of your song. BIAB sometimes substitutes a more tempo appropriate instrument. An RT recorded at 80 isn't going to work well in a song with a tempo if 140. It world result in weird audio artifacts.

Knowing what Style you're using is a really good question, as some styles will sub in instruments on a versus b parts, and by default the program is set to vary every other chorus (chord sheet repeat). If it's the style, you can read in the Style Memo box in the StylePicker what changes it will make, if any! But provided the answers to the questions at the top of this thread will help us narrow it down with you for sure!
