You know, I love the Beatles. But Paul's last several solo efforts are just not lighting my fire. They kind of all sound like that piano part on this video. Pedestrian and not really something that a 2 or 3 year piano student couldn't do. I wonder how much the per-ticket price was for this personal performance?
Most folks posting tracks constructed track-by-track in this forum have done a better job and they don't have a personal engineer at Abbey Road studios at their beck and call.
When I read that back, it sounds harsh - but now put the YouTube on, let it loop, without seeing that it's Paul McCartney, and see if you don't agree.

Seems like something simple just to show how multitracking is done and involve his audience in it. I doubt he NEEDS to do this to make MONEY? It could have been a for charity event, who knows. Anyway I wish I was in that audience. Very few artists have songs that last as long as the Beatles. I think partly because the babyboom generation was so large even some of the secondary acts of the sixties are still going. But kind of like the Who at the Superbowl - it's more of a nostalgia than a musical event. Looking back at the Beatles it seems like the whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

It was harsh............and very justified. LOL. I didn't even have to imagine that it wasn't Paul, and your phrase "pedestrian" is a good description of almost everything they did seperately.
The Beatles are a perfect example of where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I was a big Beatles fan as a kid. I still love most of their stuff.
But as individual artists, they sucked really hard.
Ironically, the only album I EVER bought by one of them was John Lennon’s “Rock and Roll”, which was an album of cover songs of 50’s and 60’s rock tunes.
I guess the creative influence they had on each other was more than any of them thought.

What I remember about the Beatles and other musicans of the 60s & earlier was that they could play their instruments. They didn't need computer software to help them sound good. Recording engineers did have a few tricks up their sleeves, but basically these guys & gals had talent which is more than can be said for many of todays morons

I couldn't agree more. I think most people would be astonished to hear their favorite artist without pitch correction.
Taylor Swift is a great example. She's a beautiful young lady that makes a great "package", but she just can't sing without the pitch correction.

I watched Britain's got talent last night. Some of the singers on that are dire. You seldom see singers these days playing piano or organ which is a shame.

I disagree on Paul, while his albums are not up to the work he did with the Beatles some 40 years ago, there are still some nice tracks on them, and i enjoy the fact the old guy can stand up there in his late 60's and put something together like that. He might not be the best piano player, or any instrument for that matter cept maybe the bass, but wow can can play them all, how many of us can say the same. Not to mention he sings freakin in tune, again something quite a few of us around here myself struggle with. Heck around here we are proud as heck if we make a track that a computer program played 4 out of 5 of the instruments, and we added one and a vocal. Sheez i am tickled pink if i hit most of the notes. LOL
Go back and compare his super bowl show with the Who, he rocked, they stunk. Paul is 67 now and Dude can still get it on! Not his best years for sure but still interesting none the least.
On Taylor Swift, uuhh did you hear the country awards performance?!?!?! She can sing but not well YET. Live she struggles depending on the sound system i imagine.

Actually I do. LOL. So do the people who wrote the all the articles recently about her"pitchy" performances. And the people in the audiences who complained. And the audio and video clips that I watched of those performances confirmed it for me.
She's a baby doll, handles herself well on stage, writes her own songs, and seems like a real sweetheart in interviews, so I give her credit where it's due. But she has a very hard time singing in key and has a weak voice.
But once they use the pitch correction and effects, she sounds great. If Taylor wasn't such a pretty little thing, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because neither one of us would have ever heard of her. Period.

Paul is one of the greatest songwriters and performers alive as well as a fine musician. This was an excellent lesson in songwriting and how they did it back then. Only difference being George Martin was there in the early days with a couple of other engineers using tape machines instead of a computer when they did first drafts of new song ideas. Of course the completed song wasn't fleshed out in less than five minutes. He wasn't there for a concert or a band reunion or to record his latest single on the fly. I loved it.

For what it's worth, I visited a Pro Tools studio this past week to see how all that's done. I'm interested in getting into computer-based recording. Anyway, the head guy was showing me many demos and how they approach recording. I was particularly interested in the pitch correction software. He said they run that in the background on every vocalist, no matter how experienced or style of music. He said he'd never seen a vocalist who didn't need a little help here and there.

I’m not going to get into a “yes I do” and “no you don’t” thing with you. It’s ridiculous.
I watched your link. Taylor is a sweetheart. She’s a role model for young girls. She has talent and has worked since she was a little girl to become what she is. Good for her.
I simply gave an honest critique of her voice. She has a very hard time singing in key and has a weak voice. I’m not the only one who’s noticed! That’s not tearing her down, it’s a simple fact.
Anytime any of us step onto the stage, we are asking to be critiqued whether we realize it or not. Especially if we are being paid for it. If we are playing for free, it’s a slightly different story, but people will still critique us.
An artist is a package. The key element of Taylor’s package is her looks. The key element of Janis Joplin’s package was her voice. Which one would be a better role model? Obviously that would be Taylor. Who would I rather hear sing? Obviously that would be Janis.
Jeez. Lighten up.

OK, I guess Paul was doing nothing more than a demo on how to multitrack and nothing more. Any one here can do that, especially with the software available now. BIB on it's own will do a superb job, any one with a halfway decent recording keyboard of any type or make and can play it can also do it, but we are musicians, I feel that was just a demo for an ordinary audience of none musicians to show how we musicians can do it.
Boring though wasn't it?

It is ridiculous that continue to say things are a fact when they are actually only an opinion. I have heard from a Nashville guy that she uses less pitch correction in the studio than some of the other bigger singers. If you had said "It is my opinion that ..." I wouldn't have said a peep. But you implied that it was chiseled in stone somewhere. It is only your opinion.

If they can't play well individually, there is no chance that putting them together will improve things.
There was this man who got knighted for producing the Beatles and IMO he was the guiding force that really knew music. To their credit, the four moptops LISTENED to him and did what he told them to do.
This was not new, they were applying the Motown Model in a flat out attempt to garnish some of that US money. And they succeeded.
Apparently, brining in that kind of money can get you knighted...

The Beatles paid their dues in a way that probably doesn't happen too much these days. All those shows in the nightclubs in Berlin, night after night after night after night after night, etc.
They wrote great songs, even as solo artists.
Lately, Paul, however, they have been boring. I didn't see the McCartney super bowl show - though I saw the Who and wished they would have just let them rock out an entire song or two instead of the 'medley'.
I've even tried some of Paul's other stuff where he is a not so secret bandmember, like in The Fireman. Blah.
Please don't mistake the labeling of this video as bedestrian/boring and uninspired, as a condemnation of a life's work.
