Wonder if a change has occurred with ‘Melodist’ feature, or maybe it has never worked as I thought it did?
I thought that style choice for Melodist was either to select one of the many ‘presets’ from left-hand panel, or for overall selected style - or any other one chosen from ‘Styles’ directory via ‘Choose (2)’ - would be used.
As it is, whatever style is shown in Melodist’s ‘Style’ section, the one highlighted in left-hand panel is what gets used for melody.
As an example, if Melodist ‘Style’ is shown as ‘Sturdy.STY’ and ‘Joplin 1’ is highlighted, then the Joplin style will be used. It makes no difference whether ‘Allow Style Change’ box is ticked or not.
I prepared a user melody file preset using ‘Sturdy.STY’ style, which then correctly allows this style to be used for melody.
Is it a case, then, that any of these presets will override whatever is set in Melodist’s ‘Style’ section? If so, there seems little point in allowing anything to be chosen there.
I do realise, though, that I might simply be doing something fairly fundamentally wrong. If so, can anyone point out what, please?
In case it's useful information, here is my take on the Melodist.
The Melodist actually uses two different types of styles. The left-hand panel lists all the melodic styles in which the Melodist will construct a melody.
The "Choose (2)" button is used to select a backing style that will be used to accompany the melody generated by the melodic style.
It is the "Allow style change" checkbox that gives the melodist permission to load in the accompaniment style that's associated with a specific melody-generator style. I usually have the option off because when I use the melodist, I nearly always have a style loaded that I want to create a melody for.

So it is clear in my mind, does unticking 'Allow Style Change' prevent the left-pane style from having any effect, or is it the 'Choose(2)' style that it stops? Should it be the former, then that is not what seems to be happening with my setup. However, before I try 'Return to Factory Settings', thought it best to be absolutely certain about what should be happening so I don't confuse myself further!
