Also there are a few VSTi that just do not play nice. One for me is PS fretted. It would never load properly, and will not playback. Also there are a few that do not link all the way. i use sampletank a lot, and i find that in RB particularly it acts different than in other DAW software. Alot of the time the tracks do not respond with commands like volume adjustment do not work well. Also ST will not function properly if inserted as the default synth. Place it in any other slot and it work better. As the default the system will not save the ST setting for the next time you open the song. Default is DX synth 16 place it as Dx synth 1 and it wil save the settings. Not big issue but it forces you to have two synths in the rack. Not having a clue how that stuff works my best guess is that the program is coded to look for GM spec for the default synth, and since ST is not GM it fails.

Overall most of the synth i have work fine. a few like the freebie piano and electric piano from the true paino folks (can't remember the exact name) plays but it plays at full volume with no track controlled adjsutment. The only way to cut the volume is to render to wave file and cut it there. I have found others like this but just do not use them. With VSC, TTS, and Sampletank i get all the sounds i want for now, until i can afford a real good hardware synth module.

And yet, after all these years, you still cannot simultaniously record a vocal and guitar to two different tracks with PG Music software, like you can with Pro Tools.

Really? Where did you get that from? It's all in how you set your pc up and what interface you're using. I suspect you're using MME drivers. Those only allow for one stereo pair or two inputs. ASIO gives you multiple inputs. Even though I have 8 inputs available I rarely use more than one so I don't have the details for you but RB/PT certainly can record more than two tracks at once.

Powertracks and RealBand can do this if you have a multichannel soundcard - or at least record two mono channels with different inputs to two different tracks at one time if you have the standard stereo soundcard.

Powertracks has been able to do that for a long time. RealBand is based on the Powertracks engine and thus can do likewise.

Several years ago I did an onlocation recording using a laptop and an E-MU 1616M plus a Behringer A-D unit added on to it to record 16 tracks of audio simultaneously using Powertracks. Worked very well.

User "rharv" has a Delta 1010 multichannel card and uses Powertracks to record multiple channels pretty much exclusively.

Band in a Box, on the other hand, has only one Audio track available.

MME can record multiple tracks also. The need to switch to ASIO for multiple inputs is a restriction of some soundcards, not RB or PT.
And yes, as Mac stated - I record multiple tracks in RB very often (using MME most of the time). Delta 1010lt makes it very easy.

If you are advanced enough to understand and use something like Ozone, T-Racks or Sound Forge then maybe you would get some real benefit from using one of the more "sophisticated" DAW's. Those programs are $3-500 just to master your recording. ...
Bob

Ozone works just fine in RB, no need for other software to run mastering units.

I would hope that it would not be possible to tell the difference but what do you think?

It is generally aknowledged that its your hardware, not your software that determines what your recordings sound like. The choice of software boils down to workflow. You pick the software that you like to work with. ... The fact of the matter is that I started out using Cakewalk when it was nothing more than a MIDI sequencer and kept on upgrading through the various moprhs until it became SONAR 8.5. I'm not going to tell you it the best thing on the market because it may not be. I just hate to change, and it is a program that I've been using so long that I know how everything works and I can work at speed. Having to learn new software would slow me down ...

Well put. Your description fits me also, but with PowerTracks. I still have a floppy of PT ver2.3 (I think) around here somewhere! I cut my teeth with it and am still very comfortable in PT and RB.
