Hi my friends, maybe this question has been asked and answer before, but here I go. I like the drum groove in some of the styles with midi drums, however don't care for the percussion sounds (bongos, congas, etc.) that comes up in the "B" section sometimes. Is there a way of getting rid of those from within BIB? Thanks

Hi Pete,
To my way of thinking, this would be easiest in Piano Roll view. Since we are talking MIDI, you will be able to edit out the notes that correspond to the congas, etc. Simply click on the Piano Roll view and then click on the "D" for the drums track (mid-screen over on the left you'll see buttons B D P G S M S corresponding to the tracks). You might need to scroll up or down. Once you can see the MIDI notes, simply delete the ones you don't want. When you have done this, you will need to "Freeze" the track to stop it from being regenerated when next you load the song.
Regards, Noel

Thanks Noel, I'll do that, seems simple enough.

Fantastic Noel, thanks for your answer and thanks Cubanpete for your question.
By "freeze" you mean save to audio track, correct? Is there no way to save the file (BIAB 09) that I'm working on with those midi changes? I'm songwriting and I'd like to be able to do this as I go.
I also want to be able to edit out some drum stuff. There seems to be the odd remnant drum hit being generated in my mostly "resting" drum track. If I edit those hits out, can't I save and prevent them from recurring?
Or do I need to export this and learn how to do it in another midi program?
Thanks.

Edit the style if you want to get rid of them for good.Save with a different name though so you don't actually loose the original.

Are you talking about the actual quality of the sounds or the pattern itself in the B section? If you like the pattern just not the sounds because they sound cheesy or whatever, then try a different synth with better drum samples. Otherwise, the editing will work then freeze the track. If you're into tweaking drum/percussion tracks Real Band is much better suited for that. You can create a bunch of different tracks using different styles and part markers both midi and Real Drum's and then mix parts of them together to make one killer drum track. Can't do that in Biab.
Bandmoose, the freeze track option is in Biab 2010 not in 2009. One of many good reasons to upgrade.

Great, thanks Bob, that worked, I was able to freeze just the drum track alone with this new feature. I was already thinking of upgrading for the undo feature and other things. I appreciate the help.

Thanks to all for the responses, it made clear a few points on that subject, and what I' trying to do (which I know now how thanks to this forum) is to get rid of some percussion sounds which I did not care for, although mos of them sound pretty decent (using the Ketron SD2), but sometimes do no go with the overall sound I want to accomplish (working on a new smooth jazz CD). But I found and tested another way which is a lot faster that trying to edit the file itself. That is by saving the drum midi file as a "separate drum tracks", that way when loaded into whatever sequencer you're using you can get rid of the "offending" tracks in one wack, rather than deleting note by note. Maybe this info can help somebody else.

Sounds great, Cubanpete, thanks.
I presume I could do this kind of midi editing with Ableton Live? I mean, I don't own any other "sequencer"... or could I do that in Realband? Is Ableton overkill for this, should I consider getting a simpler midi editor or sequencer program? Excuse my newbishness.
I am using BIAB (now 2010) for songwriting, (musical theatre) I generally save to .wav my BIAB backing tracks... I'd love to be able to customize them more... altough I must admit I've probably only scratched the surface of what I can do in BIAB. I've just created my first hybrid style, and that works a treat, it seems a great way to have a broad stylistic variation within a song while keeping some elements the same and thus feeling like they belong in the same song.
Once I'm done in BIAB, I then export as .wav into Audacity and record my vocals there then export the vocal .wavs (frequently multiple tracks with harmonies etc) into Melodyne where I pitch correct and do a final mix adding reverb and panning etc.
Any suggestions welcome, I'm just experimenting with my process. Thanks, Bandmoose

Real Band will do all of this and a lot more. I just posted a few detailed examples of what you can do with it in another thread, just search my username.

Hi Bandmoose, yes, what jazzmammal said is correct, if you have v2010 you should also have the latest Realband, and this would do what you need. In my case i usually use Acid Pro for my sequencing, because I'm used to it but Realband would work just as well, no need for any other sequencer. In the case of midi drums the trick is to save it as "separate drum files". As far as Ableton Live, I couldn't say, although I own a "lite" version of it but have never used it, just go with Realband. Good luck.
