Another forum I belong to has a member who has done an instructional video for learning BIAB. I haven't gotten it yet, since I'm in the process of a move to Arizona. I've heard good things about it and it has supposedly been cleared by PG music. You can check it out if you've a mind to at

http://www.rickcampbellworld.com/

I still don't have my studio assembled, so I can't even hear the demo. Rick seems pretty well versed with BIAB so it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the link toucher.

The second link on the page shows Biab with numbers (eg 1 5 etc) instead of chords. I cannot do that with my Biab.

Cheers

?

You should be able to do that. BiaB has had that feature for a long, long time.

Look for the toolbar icon that has the large Roman Numeral in it. You can toggle between standard chord entry, Roman Numeral entry OR the Arabic Number "Nashville Notation" entry there.

Has it or hasn't it?. I'm guessing that "supposedly" means that someone claims it, but no one has verified it?

I notice that he didn't check the copy for the DVD insert very well before he had it printed. In two different places (front and back) he says "to create you own backing and accompaniment tracks". Don't you hate when you discover stuff like that after you have several hundered copies made?

I enjoyed his "How to Clean a Steel Guitar" instructional video. He really did a good job on making the prop look like an real Emmons. By the way, IMHO I don't think it matters if it has or hasn't been cleared by PG Music, as long as it is a quality product and really covers the basics of using Biab. Many new users have been asking for additional help videos like this for quite a while. A tip of the hat to Rick.

there is quite a lot of information via the support link and of course in the help & manual files

i would suggest focused video Tutorials with example files for Using the Band-in-a-Box\realband Program for example

Interface/Driver Setup
Loading/Playing Songs
Inputting New Songs
Using "Style Picker" Window
Using the RealTracks
Record Audio
record midi
render a Band-in-a-Box\realband composition file to an audio .WAV
("burn") your Band-in-a-Box\realband composition directly to an audio CD.

all of the above can be obtained via the biab help file but not in the order listed above

of course i probably forgot something so feel free to add

Rick Campbell here. Just to clarify a few things.

1. Yes, PG Music is well aware of the DVD and have given their blessing. This was done up front.

2. Yes, I'm aware of the spelling errors on the DVD cover. Actually, what you see on the web site is from the proof and this was corrected before the acutal printing. I suppose I should correct this.

3. The DVD is for basic BIAB use. It covers how to use BIAB to make backing tracks for practice and is geared toward country music players. The purpose was to fill a need expressed among steel guitar player friends that are interested in BIAB, but are afraid it would be too difficult for them to use. There is nothing there that's not available in the manuals or the videos on the PG Music website. In fact, in the video I often refer people to PG Music for additional help and especially to purchase BIAB products. Generally, I teach one way to do the task and move on to the next one. The goal is to help people create backing tracks in a step by step process and without the complications of parts of BIAB that they don't need to use. If I find the time I might do some advanced videos covering more detailed topics, Real Drums, Real Tracks, etc... but I really believe that once people understand the basics, they will be able to advance themselves fairly easily, and especially with the help available here on the web site and this forum.

4. Actually this started out as a free project just to help my friends, but as I got into it, I realized that I had to purchase additional video software, etc... and it was requiring quite a bit of time, so I decided to make a charge to recover some of the expense. If I break even, I'll consider it a success.

5. Southern accent??????? What do you mean? Where I live no one considers me to have an accent.

It would be great to have video tutorials. I suffered dearly through the learning curve with Biab and RB. In the end, it was worth every bit the blood, sweat and tears. But I suspect, I'm going about things the hard way, if just gotten used to it.

You can use the Nashville number system by clicking on the Roman Numeral 2 icon.
