I've recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
BIAB 2022 works fine apart from the Demos and Soloing in the Style Picker and Real Tracks Picker Screens where I get a message saying: "Windows Media Player has a problem playing this" or similar words.
Where should I look to fix this?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards Nigel

They were suppose to be adding an internal player rather than using the Windows System player. Are you using the same ASIO device as the windows device ? Is Biab set to release ASIO driver when stopped ?
Nigel, It might be ASIO / WASAPI conflict in your BIAB Audio Settings. You can try changing things there. Most of us do not have issue with ASIO being selected in BIAB and auditioning demos. But some do.
Some people swear that selecting MME in BIAB Audio Driver settings is the silver bullet... I don't know. Try that. ----
If that doesn't work, to troubleshoot I would start by: 1)Close BIAB 2)Go to the drive where "bb" folder is located and to bb/Demos/RealTrack-Demos 3)Scroll down the list to WMA files and try to simply play it using Windoz.
If you hear the sound most likely it is some sort of audio driver conflict (and maybe you should try highly praised MME as solution)
I sent PG an internal Delphi wma player as this causes so many issues all the time. I was using Media Player in the Reaper BB Drums creator to play the wma drum demos, so I just changed it to an internal player as I don't want to see these issues in Reaper: https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=743767#Post743767
Thanks for your help. Yes I did not have the Windows Media Player installed despite Microsoft's assurance that it is installed automatically.
Anyway I have, after a huge amount of frustration, installed Windows Media Player under Windows 10. So I no longer get a BIAB error message saying Windows Media Player not installed.
HOWEVER - still I can't play any .mgu or .wma file in BIAB - Windows Media Player loads and it stops with the following error message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"
I have tested Windows Media Player with .mp3 and .wav files - no problem. The problem is only with BIAB .mgu and .wma files under Windows 10.
Any suggestions?
Best Regards Nigel

Very useful info. Was about to post asking for help with similar error problem, even though files in question were playing correctly with Windows Media Player as standalone. However, change to MME has cured the difficulty!
Nigel. You keep on talking about MGU. MGU is a proprietary BIAB format. This will not help you in any way to narrow things down.
Did you try to play WMA file within windows with BIAB closed?? Lets do that to determine if you need a codec (which is possible, but unlikely)
Again: 1)Close BIAB 2)Go to the drive where "bb" folder is located and to bb/Demos/RealTrack-Demos 3)Scroll down the list to WMA (Not MGU) files and try to simply play them by double clicking on them.
""Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"
I have tested Windows Media Player with .mp3 and .wav files - no problem."
"What does K-lite codec do?"
Quote:
The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of audio and video codecs for Microsoft Windows DirectShow that enables an operating system and its software to play various audio and video formats generally not supported by the operating system itself.
Then, I have to agree with musocity on codec. K-lite pack in most cases solves issues like that.
I have been using K codec packs for over 15 years. Kindly post back your results if you will go that way.
P.S. MGUs are not designed to play with winamp or similar, it is proprietary BIAB format. .reapeak I believe is also a proprietary format that is made specifically for Reaper.
WMA is abbreviation for Windows Media Audio. Sort of Windows MP3 competitor. It "should" open in Windows natively, but likely the version you have does not have proper codec for playback. K-Lite should solve it.
please dont 'yap' at me, cos ymmv…but my suspicion is cos win settings have been changed …this is giving biab a problem cos bb is looking for something in win and assuming standard unchanged win settings.
i dont know the internal coding of bb obviously , but i have no probs here in biab , BUT then i have not changed my standard win settings.
could you provide further info as to the reason you need to change the win standard settings…cos i'm not understanding this aspect.
are you using asio or was driver settiings in biab ? i dont need to use mme here.
what is your sound interface ??
merry xmas.

my songs....mixed for good earbuds...(fyi..my vocs on all songs..) https://soundcloud.com/alfsongs (90 songs created useing bb/rb) (lots of tips of mine in pg tips forum.)
You want it to play in the system Windows Media Player as BIab can't use an external app on the system files that come with WMP. So try it in the actual system WMP. This was the major problem running on Linux under Wine, Biab was determined to use Window Media Player system files that you don't have in Wine, same with the BBPlugin. This is all the more reason Biab needs it's own internal wma player that plays through the Biab audio device.
I changed all Windows defaults back to Windows Media Player - still doesn't work with BIAB!
I think I'm using Windows Media Player (WMP) 12 because that's what Microsoft says I should be using for Windows 10. However when you load WMP 12 there is nothing on the screen which tells you what version it is - or any information at all.
Is this the version of WMP that works with BIAB?

Can hear WMA with BIAB closed already a good start. Open BIAB. On the top toolbar go to Audio->Audio Drivers / Settings. See attached image. At that drop down menu try all three choices, one by one. Usually selecting MME solves problems like yours for people.
If not, I have another suggestion, but lets do it one by one.
P.S. We should trade. I help you with setting up BIAB, you will give me a vocal master class
