Forgive me, as I'm sure this has been asked before, but my searches are coming up empty. I am rehearsing with four-horn band (trumpet, tenor, trombone and bari sax.) They let me play with them because I own a bari sax <g>.
Anyway, I can double the melody for myself, but what is the best way to take a harmony embellished tune (like Jazz Messengers, specifically) and generate transposed parts for the horns? I can print the score, but I would have to re-enter all the heads by hand. I figure there has GOT to be an easier way ... even if it requires Finale ... (but I hope not.)

Finale or any other musicwriting/music editing software is what I would recommend. You can import as MIDI file to make it easier and then transpose to suit each instrument from there.
Inside BiaB, you might be able to use the Notation Options Transpose, but once for each instrument, printing out that, then go ahead and change if for the next instrument and print again, etc. although I haven't done that I don't see why it wouldn't work. Of course, you would have all parts on the staff at once if you did that. Maybe the Fakesheet view could sort that part out. Seems like a lot more work than just using Finale, though.

Yeah, giving horn players a score won't work ... My Finale 2010 has been crashing importing the MIDIs generated by BIAB with harmonies.. Maybe a Wishlist feature ....

Band in a Box can export MIDI as MIDI type 1 or MIDI type 0 files.
If one type doesn't import into Finale, try exporting as the other type.
MIDI Type 1 is multitrack. MIDI Type 0 has all the parts on one track.
Sometimes, the *method* used is the problem when importing MIDI files.
Don't try to Paste a MIDI file into the program, instead try using the "Open" command in the File menu after hitting "New" in the host (in this case, the host is Finale).

I've had no problem importing BIAB-generated midifiles into Encore and Sibelius scoring programs. The importation creates a score with each BIAB part on a separate staff.
Initially, after creating the BIAB file and saving it as a midifile, I open the midifile in a sequencer (I use Sonar) and delete the BIAB parts in which I'm not interested, usually leaving only the melody and harmony parts. Then I save the midifile, writing over the original.
Then I open the midifile in my scoring program and save it. Then I delete all the parts except the one I want to edit. After transposing or whatever, I print it out and save it as a separate file, like ROCKGLORY-baritone. Then I reopen the original and remove all the parts except the next one I want to edit.
If the harmony parts were generated by BIAB's harmony feature, I usually tweak the harmony parts, usually chord notes, to 'humanize' them since BIAB doesn't generate passing tone harmony unless the chord changes permit.
Editing the parts in a scoring program also enables adding of dynamic and accent markings, section markings, and comments, not practical in BIAB.
