I have a strange problem on my laptop...quite frequently, when I hit "play", the song loads and starts, but without any sound. If I hit the "return to factory settings", still no sound. But if I then go to options
/open preferences, and load any "saved prefs" backup from the templates file, it starts working again. Sometimes it'll be OK for two or three songs, then the problem starts again.
Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks

Hello Mike,

Which exact version/build of Band-in-a-Box do you have?
What MIDI drivers do you have selected in Opt.-MIDI Driver Setup?
Are you using a DXi synth, and which one?
In Audio Settings, are you using MME or ASIO drivers?
Is it RealTracks/Audio, or MIDI, that has no sound?

Thanks for the reply

--------------------
I'm using the 2010 version with latest build
Midi drivers: no sound input
Output: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
DXi: Roland VSC DXi
Audio settings: MME
It's the RealTracks that have no sound.

Regards

Probably it's a sound setting in the system.

Try to play any mp3 ..if no sound then system and sound devices and make sure nothing is muted or turned down, or that your output in general works.

There is a mixer there to set how much you want from your midi and wav volume, so you have midi output you just need to get the .wav or regular sound going on your system eh?

Also, is it a particular song? Maybe it has some volume changes in it?

When it happens again, leave BIAB open and use a media player to play an mp3 (as suggested above). The fact that loading a preference file solves it points to a particular song that is changing something and not to Windows.

Hmm, do you know for a fact that it is just RealTracks that have no sound, or is it MIDI tracks also? If it IS just the RealTracks (even though you are using a DXi synth), then:

(1) verify again that you have the latest build installed, by going to Help | About Band-in-a-Box.
(2) make sure you haven't accidentally added an unwanted DX or VST effect in the DirectX window (Audio and Synth track tabs).
(2) try unchecking the 'Fast generation...' option in the RealTracks Settings window and see if that makes a difference.

Mike sent me several BIAB files, and 90% of them have no sound when I play them...?
I'm still using BIAB '08 if that matters....

The files would have no sound. sound comes from either the setup of the program and or the routing of the signal.

He's using BB '08.

If there are new RealTracks involved, maybe it can't play them anyway.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I've tried them all without success.
It seems that on some songs I have the problem (which I can fix fairly fast as I described in my first post), and with other songs, I have sound from the start.

Any further ideas, anyone? I'd really like to fix this problem, because I'm using my laptop on live gigs, and this problem is causing unacceptable delays between songs.

I'm only using Real Tracks, and I have BIB 2010 (299).

I look forward to some more comments.

Hi Mike

It must be very frustrating - I have had a few when nothing seem to solve it

Is it the same songs or does it just do it randomly

Back several years ago on XP I can remember something similar and in the end I completely uninstalled VSC DXi - shut down and then re-installed it which worked but overwriting did not - faulty drivers can trip you up

Might be worth a try

Brian

Hi Mike,

Maybe you have two RealTracks folders on your computer, that have different sets of RealTracks in them - for example, one folder that's C:\bb\RealTracks, and another that's E:\Music\RealTracks. Maybe in the saved prefs file, you have specified a custom folder location (RealTracks Settings window) to E:\Music\RealTracks, and you have some songs that use only RealTracks from that folder. If that's not it, perhaps you could send one of the problem files to support @pgmusic.com, with your intrface.bbw files if possible.

Hello again

I'm running B-I-B from the external hard drive, so that's not the problem.
And as I mentioned, it's intermittent. Sometimes 2 or 3 songs in a row work fine, then the problem starts again.

And sometimes the same song behaves differently at different times.
But I'll send a few files anyway.
Regards

Make sure you are running all the latest program updates.

There was a problem awhile back, one of the older versions, not in BB2010, where the program would somehow MUTE my soundcard's Master Output fader. I would have to visit the Control Panel, Sounds and turn it back up when that would happen.

That problem got fixed quite a long while back, though I thought it worth mentioning here just in case.
