... it still plays some god awful notes here and there... sometimes. I do notice that this happens mostly when there's a 7th chord to be played. Example: C to C7th to F... the C7th plays some note that doesn't belong in the song. I am not really following you here. Would you not expect playing a C7 in the key of C to produce a sour note? The C7 chord has a flat 7 (Bb) which is not in the C scale.
