Greetings all,

My wife has a number of CDs for her old karaoke machine. They say they are in CD+G format and play in her karaoke machine. I see that the documentation for BB mentions these types of files and I've been able to open .kar files. When I do a directory on the CD all that is there there are a bunch of *.cda files. I do understand these are just windows files pointing to the music. My question is: How can I open them in BB?

Second question is: I see a number of these types of files, as well as mp3+g, available on the 'net for purchase. Will these work in BB? My first preference is to use the CDs that she's already paid for....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Fleet

We use the mp3's from some cd+g karaoke files. just the same as other mp3 files with no problem. I have never tried to use any .kar files nor do we have any. I don't recall right now, but it seems that we may have opened up .cda files using a program called Switch which we got from NCH Software. I think that is a free program. I'm sure there are a lot of other file conversion pgms out there though.

You may find that you must first COPY the CD files to your hard drive first, then locate them in an Explorer window there from inside BB.

I cannot answer your second question.

.kar files load fine. I've found if I have another ending or suffix I need to rename the file to have the .kar at the end. You have to use, in most cases, the old Dos type screen to do this, you can just issue the copy command. For example if your CD player shows as F: you go to options and open the terminal and get C:\

Then your invoke copy as in

copy F:\*.xxx C:\users\john\*.kar

then you load them in Biab as kar files.

This loads the entire file into the Melody track and disables the style.

This also brings in the chords. I shop for the right style and enable that, and mute the Melody, and use the Melody track to play along.

Note that there might me a lot of notes on the Melody line.

Hello Fleet.

Yes, Band-in-a-Box will open mp3+g files (or wma+g etc.). Each mp3+g is actually two files, the mp3 audio file, and another file with the karaoke data.

You will actually need to convert those CDG files to a format like mp3+g, before BB will open them. There are some utilities you can find on the internet that will rip your CD, and convert it to that format. (So you end up with a bunch of mp3+g files saved on your computer hard drive, and you can load those into BB)

Thanks all,

I was able to find a program to "rip" them off the CD and split them into the two files (audio and data). Always the music plays, sometimes the lyrics light up, other times they don't, sometimes you can hear the artist (not my wife) singing. Is there a trick to this or am I better off getting dedicated software just for the karaoke side of things?

Kind Regards,
Fleet.

Lots of free Karoke players. Search for Kara Moon. Band in a Box stuff plus that I think, some users here utilize that site.

Off the top of my bald head the best I can do. Under the Do rag you get with chemo, makes u look bad. 'specially the Bob Marley one my son gave me. Imagine that.

Thanks John, I'll check that out. I'm not that big into karaoke myself but if I can get my wife involved a bit more perhaps she'll let me do my other stuff
