Biab generates many variations of chords. This is good most of the time.
The probably occurs when you print out a lead sheet for someone to play the chords.
There are so may variations it makes it difficult for most to play the chords.
And they have to manually figure out the common chords.
Since most music only uses the common chords it would not adversely effect an arrangement.

After the chords have been generated, go to Edit menu and select " 'Jazz Down' the chords".

I think the issue is that the chords are often up the next Thus even a progression like C F G Am C might be shown in chrod diagrams with all chords a few freds up the neck rather than using open strings and first position. I think want is wanted is to be able to have BIAB show only first position chords?

First select Jazz Down the chords as above, then, if wishing to use the Guitar options for chord diagrams, tab, etc. use the Guitar Options to set BB to show "Folk" chords for open position voicings.

Hi
What i would like to see is a very easy chord sequence as in the 3 chord trick i belive most standards and jazz tunes can be played in this mode, for me simple is best so that would be C,C7,Cm,Cdim and that is all, is this possible so in a tune in C you would only have C,F and G, and in a few tunes A & E

Perhaps Jazz down chords could be made a PERMANENT toggle.
I've just upgraded from BIAB 12 to 2008.5 and still learning where to locate things. The "folk" setting as I recall is on each style sheet - perhaps Peter it could be closer to surface say on the same menu as "Jazz down.
Cheers

An other option, which I guess really belongs on a wish list. would be the option to use specific chord charts. At one time I used tab edit, and it had the ability to build and load chord chart libraries, and to assign the a specific chord chart to a location in the score. This allowed that you could have a sequence such as
C Dm G7 C
and you could specifically attach the chord chart you wanted. So you could make all of the chords in first position using only the high four strings (nice for new students) you could make them first postion using 5 and 6 string for more advanced students, and you could use chord at higher positions for even more advanced students. As I recall you had to insert the pictures bar by bar but it did allow that you could have very specific sets of Chord charts attached to a song.

Had to reply to this even though it was posted awhile ago. You cannot play standards and jazz tunes with simple triads. The tunes would sound like a beginner. Try playing "Stella By Starlight" with triads or "Stardust". Try playing "Nica's Dream" with triads. Will not sound right. "Nuff said. Later, Ray
