The narrative script is utter rubbish.
This bull about "woke" is a joke. Small Town is a joke too..all bile & not much of a song.
The premise of the two videos...that had he been signed the song wouldn't have been released is silly...had tyhey not heard the song that wouldn't want to sign the man.
Railing against the wealthy & corporations is nothing new, isn't bad either.
There're plenty of critics of the establishment who have record deals with big & small labels.
At least Woody tried to offer solutions.
I like the recording, I can understand and empathise with most of the narrative as well. There's no reference to "woke" in the song just another right wing ding bats grabbing the song and the backstory to make a conservative point aimed at oppressing difference, keeping wages down, using unemployment as a leverage for low wages etc. The real gripe, as outlined in the song, is that a working person can't make a living while those with power & wealth squeeze even more of of them.. It is, after all, the conservatives who have the money and the power.
I'm tired of the bull sprouted by the right and readily absorbed by many, many working folk. Same as it was when the Irish came to the goldfields, the Chinese came to the gold fields, the Italians, the Germans, the Eastern Europeans. Divide the working folk, turn them against the latest group of immigrants and distract them from the wiles of the wealthy. Same as it has been since newspapers, radio and TV...ie: mass communication has been carrying the message of its owners.
