The money was never an issue. I've been using Unix and/or Linux continuously since about 1981/1982, several years before Windows (or even Lisa or Gem), mostly as a development platform, host, target, embedded. I used regularly to have the question "how do I even do this in Windows?". Mostly(!) I just find Linux much more productive for me. Very occasionally it's a struggle. But then I'm an electronics/software designer, not part of the music industry.
