Hi, this seems strange but her goes.
I've been working on my timing in BB and Realband. In BB I'm fairly consistent. In Realband, I start on the beat and as far as what I hear, I'm fairly consistent. However playback is another matter, the notes are registered progressively late so that by the end of 140 measures it is very noticeable.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Don S.

When I play the midi keyboard into Realband, my timing error grows incrementally measure by measure. In BIAB it remains rather constant.
Hope that helps.

Don, I'm afraid I'm still lost. Tell me exactly what you're doing. Are you recording? Playing a DXi?

Sorry,
I am recording a midi track to a song originated in BB for the purpose of checking my timing. For comparison I have been trying both BB and RB. I am using a E-Mu USB midi cable rerouted to Coyote DXI Everything is fine in BB but in RB the timing error gets progressively worse as the song goes on. That's about the best that I can explain it. That's for your patience.

Don,
I don't know if this will help, but I have had the occasional glitch recording MIDI using DXi. These days, I record with RB/BIAB set to the MME driver and, once that's done, I re-set to DXi for playback.

Thanks for the reply, Noel. I'm not sure what is going on. it works well in BB but not in RB. I reinstall RB but to no avail.

Try using ASIO sound drivers if you have them.
With MME drivers, check the Latency setting in RB and if it does not match the one in BB, that may be the problem. (With ASIO sound drivers, that figure is set by the soundcard's controls, you can't change it like you can with MME.)
**Make sure that the "Route MIDI Thru to..." is the same as it is in BiaB.

Don,
Just another thought...
Have you tried resetting RB by removing Realband.ini and RB.cfg from the Realband folder? If this was me, I'd copy these two files to another location and then delete them from the Realband folder. That way, if I needed to return to them, I could always copy them back into the Realband folder.
The above procedure seems to have worked for some people when Realband needs a "Factory reset". It might be worth a shot.
Regards, Noel

If your listening to a DXi while recording you should use ASIO . You may get away with MME but to me you could actually be messing up your timing. Your hands are going to start compensating for what your ears are hearing.

Thanks John. I have been using ASIO along with the E-MU USB cable . it works well in BB and PT but timing errors compound as the song progressed. By 100 measures I am an 1/8 note of more early.

I found the problem. Somewhere along the way the file that I was using had been saved at 109 rather than 110 BPM. So the longer the song ran, the greater the error. Lotta egg on my face!!!!!!! Thanks all, Don S.

Hi Don,
Now that's a solution that didn't occur me (so I guess I have egg on my face too!). As I have sometimes found, the most obvious solution is the easiest overlooked.
Glad it's working, Noel

Ya, that was just a little spot test that I threw out there

*Bump* I thought I had this whipped, but not so.
In Realband, I'm using ASIO and an E-mu external hardware synth which has 0 latency to play in a track from my keyboard. During recording I am right on the beat, but in playback it shows my notes incrementally hitting earlier and earlier to the point that after 130 measures, the notes are sounding up to a 1/4 note early.
Support had me try decreasing the size of the ASIO buffer, to no avail. Whatever this glitch is, BB and PT are not affected.
Any thoughts?
Don S.

Don usually a slow but gradual offsetting og the timing is not latency, but rather a sample rate problem. Latency would be off from the get go. Check both the sound card and the programs sample rate settings, see if one is 44,100 sample rate and the other 48,000

Thanks Robh, they are both set to 16/44.1.
FWIW, the errors also show up while using MME.

If both BiaB and PT are not affected, it must be a setting inside RB. Double check these very carefully *after* loading the song into each.
RB could be set to 16/44 as default, but the setting on that particular seq file may have been changed. That setting is "per project" and not a global setting. So load the file into each program first, then check the settings once more.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thanks Bob,
Perhaps I can't see the forest for the trees but: Specifically, which screen or box would I check after the file is loaded?

The audio tab in PT and RB will display the current settings for the project. 16/44 24/44 etc
Preferences- Audio
These settings can can change if a project with different settings is loaded.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
