I have just bought BIAB 2010.5 and trying to go through the Tutorials in the Help File, but find the text very hard to read as it is so small - my eyesight is not that bad. I am using the recommended monitor screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 but the help file font is so tiny.

I can't find any 'text zoom' options in the help file interface and don't want to change my monitor screen resolution just to read the BIAB Tutorials.

Does anyone know how I can increase the font size please

Thanks

Glen

BTW I'm using Windows 7 Pro x64

Hi Glen,

If you go to the "Band in a Box" shortcut under the Program menu (under Start), you'll find a PDF version of the user's manual. This can be zoomed in and out. As far as I am aware, the contents of the PDF are identical to the Help menu. (For reference, you can find these PDF files in the \bb folder - mine is called "Band-in-a-Box 2010 Manual.pdf".)

It's also possible to order a hard-copy of the manual directly from PGMusic. I think the cost of this is around $15 plus freight. I ordered my copy via the "chat" pop-up on the homepage and it was delivered to Australia inside of a week.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel

Thanks for your comments.

Yes I did find the PDF manual but one section I was particularly interested in was 'Repeats and Endings', unless I have the wrong section in the manual, the help file seems to cover this more throughly.

If there is no way around it I will just have to struggle with the help file in conjunction with the PDF manual.

Here is a trick I sometimes use:

*You can highlight any test in the RH window of the Help Window.

*Copy the Highlighted Text (using the Edit->Copy command, or the keyboard shortcut of ctrl-c ).

+Open Wordpad and Paste (ctrl-v) the text into the Wordpad document screen.

*While the text is still highlighted, you can change the font size, make it all bold, whatever you need to do to read the text easily.

*This can even be PRINTED from there in the size, font, etc. that you have selected. Usually I just read it, but if the process I'm investigating is overly long or contains something like the chordlist or other reference that will likely need to be revisited, that part gets printed and tacked onto the home studio board right on the wall. I also keep a clipboard with other pages printed in this fashion on it. Nice and large for the old, but not so tired four-eyes.

If you don't mind trying shareware programs, a small utility named chmzoomer.exe is available (search for it on-line) that enables help files to be zoomed just the same as fonts in Internet Explorer or Firefox (Ctrl / mousewheel or Ctrl/+ or - key). Works great. I think it is about $15 US to buy it.
Good luck.

Hi again, Glen,

After reading Barry's advice above, I conducted a bit of a 'net-hunt and ended up at the following site.

http://geekycoder.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/solutions-to-enlarge-the-text-size-of-chm-without-tears/

At the bottom of this page, headed Solution #3, was reference to a program called Help Explorer. I downloaded this and installed it. I then opened the program and navigated to the \bb folder and discovered a few .hlp/.chm files. When I opened one of these, I found that by right-clicking on the body of the help-text, I could enlarge the font size. While this program is shareware, it seems that it is not restricted in anyway.

You might like to investigate this.

Regards,
Noel

The Help Explorer program seems to work very well - thanks for the link.

Maybe PG Music could have a look at this problem. With the modern graphics cards and monitors using increased resolutions this problem will only get worse. I know there is the PDF manual but on some subjects there appears to be a lot more detail in the help file.

I have a Windows Vista laptop and an XP desktop and this works on both of those platforms to increase the help file font size. I'm not sure if it is in other versions of windows.

After opening the BIAB help file, in the top menu click Options, Internet Options..., Accessibility, and then check the checkbox "Ignore font sizes specified on webpages" and then click OK, OK. The font in the help file should increase. The font size is controlled by the settings you have in Internet Explorer, whether you use it or not so if you set the font size in IE to largest to get the biggest font in the help file. (You have to quit IE and reopen the help file for the font change to take effect.

Hope that helps.

Dont foget there is a magnifier in ALL programs/ accessories/ Ease of Access. There are also ways of inceasing fonts in Windows if this is a problem. There is even a narrator in some windows versions. Check out Easo of Access.

I'm pretty sure Windows has a magnifying tool in the accessability package. Maybe that would help. I may end up needing it myself if my eyesight keeps deteriorating.

Glad this topic came up--count me in as a member of the squinting club.

I installed the Help Explorer program--Noel, thanks a bunch for your research and tip. The Help looks **way** better (and larger) in this tool. It also lets you save your favorite topics, which the original Help doesn't do.

On the down side, it seems a little buggy. The Contents don't display. After navigating a bit, I lost the ability to do a search. The Index seems to work okay.

Overall, it makes the Help so much easier to read that it's worth it (IMO) to use despite the glitches. Thanks again!
