Seems that every time I add fader moves to a song before mixing it down to audio, the audio file gets corrupted.
I'm using Coyote Dxi as the MIDI synth (should I be using the WT version?) I did the remap MIDI channel thing.

I'm also using some Cakewalk effects - they sound great in PT. Are they interfering with the output.

Not quite sure what to try next?

HI Ray,

I'm not sure what you are asking.

Could you list in order the exact steps you are taking and what happens?

Also, tell us what OS and what version of RealBand you are using.

Thanks,

Apologies for late reply - been working too hard, too late. Anyway,

-I'm running the latest PowerTracks 2010 4b update (even though the "about..." says version 4)
- I have my MIDI tracks set to use Forte Coyote Dxi.
- I'm using ASIO (the native drivers from my Edirol UA-25EX)
- I have 4 audio tracks that use some effects
- I'm using a couple of Cakewalk Plug-ins (I think these are Dxi as they are not prefixed with VST) - they just showed up after I installed Cakewalk one day. They do work.
- Previously, I have been able to save a wave file using Audio | Merge Audio to Stereo Wave File...
- I have recorded and saved some mixer moves.

This last item may be the key. I noticed that once I record some mixer moves, I can create an audio file, and it looks like it's playing, but it's silent. I still have the original audio file without the mixer moves and that plays OK.

So - I'm not sure if this is a bug, or am I messing something up with saving the mixer moves? I did notice that when it creates the audio file (with the mixer moves recorded), my CPU maxes out.
(I'm running a Vista Home Premium on 2gh Turion processor with 3MB RAM - not a powerhouse but no slouch either.)

So...I tried using the Del button to remove the mixer moves. It says it does, and I re-save the file. But they're still there when I play it back.

Hope this is enough detail... I was thinking of calling tech support if no one else has had this problem...

Thanks for any insight.

News Flash ... I just redid the MIDI tracks using CoyoteWT instead of Forte Dxi and the audio file outputs correctly. Yay!

I did notice that the CoyoteWT tracks are not as loud as the Forte Dxi (is that a known issue?) so I have to re-balance the outputs. Anyone else notice a volume change with CoyoteWT?

Did you perhaps use the recorded Mixer Moves to create a fadeout to nothing at the end?

I use PT regularly. Generally if I am mixing midi and audio tracks I will record their mix to a stereo pair within PT and then do refinements from that stereo pair and then export via the audio menu to a stereo wave. Is that what you are doing?
OR are you exporting the whole thang to a stereo wave, without first mixing to a stereo pair of tracks in PT. Might that be your answer? In all honesty I haven't tried recording audio mixer moves.
When you mention mixer moves, are you referring to "midi" mixer moves or "audio" mixer moves.
NOTE: Seems in the time it took me to write this you fixed the problem - congrats.

Ian

Ian,

I think I am using audio mixer moves. What I'm doing is adjusting my guitar volumes during different parts of the song. I need to bring it up front during the solo, and quiet it down in other sections. I see other DAW's doing this - I believe they call it "automation".

But, to your point, there are 3 buttons involved. The one I'm using is right below the mixer - 3rd from the right. It has a red dot and says "record ONLY mixer moves". And it works as such. I don't think the other two buttons (Ins and Del) have any relation to this one.

Also - I think I'm missing something on how to mix a stereo pair right into PT. I always thought you had to export the stereo file and then import that into a new file for mastering...

In any case, I think I'm getting better at all this now that it's working. Thanks!

Basically you need to open up your sound card control | recording options and choose "what you see" or "stereo mix" or something like that. The go to PT's Options | Preference | Audio and set the Input Channel to L + R. Also press F1 and read the help on the page. There maybe be some tweaking you need depending on what drivers you are using (ASIO or MME). I am only familiar with MME.

If Tracks 1-12 are ready for mixing, then put the cursor on an open track like 15 and open the VU meter. Play the file and see if the Input meter is responding and set the level - that is the "What You See" coming from PT's A1 output.

If you're all set, leave track 15 highlighted and click on record and the track 1-12 playback will begin. You can play with the faders on 1-12 during this process and when your mix has faded, hit stop and the program will ask if you want to keep the take and the mixer moves (generally I say no) and then it will write your stereo mix to tracks 15 and 16. Then unclick tracks 1-12 and listen to your mix.
After that you can add FXs to 15 and 16, set the pan etc. If all your other tracks are clicked offf then you can go to PT's Audio Menu and Export just tracks 15 and 16 to a Stereo wave.

Hope I haven't missed anything

Cheers - Ian

Hmmm ... not much luck with that. I don't see a "what you see" option on my sound card. I'm using a Roland (Edirol) 25UA-EX USB interface.

I set the target track(s) to Stereo in PT, but it still thinks it's an output track, so it's not recording. I remember doing this step when I had my 12-channel standalone DAW system.

Guess I have to Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) ... worse case, I can deal with exporting the stereo audio file and reimporting it into a new file for mastering.

Thanks for the input.

Most of us find this to be the better option anyway.
Also, we "Open" the file rather than importing into an existing project, as you will likely be cutting out the count-in, and empty space at the end, etc... before calling it done
