I have BinaB windows 2010.5 on a USB hard drive--Ultrapluspak

I want to be able to play the backing tracks I have created at a gig so want better portability than using it plugged into my current laptop--the laptop is old and heavy and I dont like the USB hard drive connected by the cable and likely to get knocked over etc

I am thinking of getting a Netbook with a 250G hard drive and loading all the software from my USB hard drive onto the drive of the Netbook

The question is that Netbooks seem to come with either XP or Windows 7 starter

I know XP is fine but are there any problems running BinaB 2010.5 on Windows 7

Tx

Hi Phil,

I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences. Here's my two bits worth. From reading the forums here for a while, either Win 7 or XP will be fine. If you choose a 64 bit operating system over a 32 bit operating system (XP and Win 7 both come in 32 bit and 64 bit), you will not be able to use the Edirol VSC/DXi for MIDI files. PGMusic now include a Coyote wave table that works on 64 bit operating systems. Some people prefer the Edirol and so stay on 32 bit operating systems.

Also, when you get your arrangements together, you might find it useful to freeze the tracks of each arrangement as this will (a) keep the arrangement exactly as you originally set it and (b) facilitate loading time.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Noel

Noel gave you some fine and good advicce.

I'll only add this:

**"VELCRO" TAPE*

Use a few strips to attacvh the USB hard drive to the back of your laptop screen on the gigs.

Works a treat here.

You can get 3 inch by 1 inch strips of the "velcro" hook and loop fastener tape at the local Radio Shack or at most hardware stores.

I like to put the fuzzy side on the laptop screen back, the harder loops side goes on the hard drive.

Phil, I know that BIAB runs fine on Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Professional. I know it works on a Toshiba netbook with XP and 1 GB RAM. What I do not know for certain is whether anyone has run it under Windows 7 Starter (your original question).

I am reasonably certain the answer is Yes, but it would be reassuring if someone here had done it and could report in.

I occasionally run BB on my netbook,Intel Atom processor and1gig ram. Fine for midi but a bit slow with RTs,can get a bit frustrating. Windows 7 starter is stable and there are no problems with BB or RB.
