Hello:
Mac and I have noticed that BIAB tempo will not reset after a song ends IF the song has:
1) a tempo change that lasts until the the end of the song 2) At least one Real Track present 3) EXTERNAL synth selected for midi out.
Under these circumstances, when the song ends the tempo does not reset, but stays set at the slower tempo. So, if you then hit "Play" again, the song regenerates, but at the slower tempo, not the original tempo of the song.
We've also noticed that under the same circumstances above, but with a DXi selected for midi out, the tempo WILL reset.
Mac and I both use the m-audio 2496 card and I was wondering if anyone using an external synth and a different sound card/ midi interface can duplicate this problem.
Could someone using an external synth please create a short song, maybe 8 to 12 bars, and include the following in the song:
1) a tempo change so the song ends slower than it started. 2) at least one Real Track 3) EXTERNAL synth selected for midi out.
What happens when the song ends? Does the tempo reset to the original song tempo or does it stay at the slower tempo of the song's ending?
If the tempo does NOT reset, does the song regenerate at the slower tempo when you hit "Play" again.
Thanks for the help.
John

Runs at right tempo second time through
Both RealDrums and RealBass track.
Midi device out Midi Uno to Ketron SD2
RealTracks out to Bose USB

Hi,
I have tried your test and have to report that my song does reset.
I am using an external synth a KORG 05R/W selected with my Edirol UA-20 interface. My sound card is a built in on my motherboard it is a ATI High Definition sound card.
I am using Windows 7 64 Bit.
And Biab 2010.5 Patch 303
Best regards Michee

John (Phillips - OP), what synth do you use?

John, Michee, Thanks for doing the tests. I appreciate it.
Matt, I use a Roland JV-1080 through the m-audio 2496 audio / midi pci card.
I trying to figure out if this is an XP problem or a m-audio2496 problem, or if there is a bug in BIAB.
Thanks,
John

I have posted a songfile that jphillips sent me that does NOT reset the tempo change after playing it once to the End and hitting Play or Replay when using an external hardware MIDI synth here: BIAB_tempo_prob.SGU If folks could download this tiny file (Rightclick on the blue url hotlink above and choose SaveAs or Save Target As) and try it with their setup, maybe we can shed some light on this one. Thanks, --Mac

Hi, Mac -
Okay, I tested the file. If I selected my Ketron through the E-Mu XMIDI-2x2 or if I choose my SoundBlaster Synth A, I play the song through the first time and I see it start at tempo=100, then down to 95 at bar 5, then down to 90 at bar 7. Once the song finishes, the tempo display still shows 90. So when I hit play again, it starts at 90 now, goes up to 95 at bar 5, then back down to 90 at bar 7.
If I instead select the Forte DXi Synth, then it plays fine. Watching the tempo indicator while it plays, I notice the tempo starts at 100, goes down to 95 at bar 5, then down to 90 at bar 7, but resets back to 100 as the song ends. Using the external Ketron or even the internal soundfonts on the X-Fi SoundBlaster, the song did not reset back to 100 as the song ends, but stays at 90.
By the way, this was using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Mac's test file on my backup system acts correctly. It goes from 100 to 95 to 90 but resets to 100 when done playing.
Windows 7 Prof 32-bit, and Roland Fantom XR external synth. Build #304.
Note that I do not have the Chet style on this computer, so it substituted ZZJAZZ. I don't know if that would make a difference, but we should report everything until the reason is determined.

So I went back and played with this some more. I unfroze all the tracks (so that style changes would apply). I selected a couple of other RealTracks-only styles and the same thing happened as my original report.
I then selected a MIDI only style, and it played correctly.
I then tried some mixed MIDI/RealTracks styles, but the problem persisted as originally reported. There's definitely something screwy going on, in that it works correctly if I have a DXi synth selected, but not with either external or internal synths.

Thanks, jford and Matt, for the time and great reporting.
This does appear to be a bug of some sort.
That change of style thing may be a helpful clue here...

I too was using the zzjazz. style, jazz swing.
Worked fine with the Ketron changing speed and back again. Something odd here.
I downloaded and loaded the file with the link Mac provided, worked fine.
I attempted to get it to play the A at the 'ending' so I put in a second chorus. Now this is odd, there is no output for the 2nd chorus. My vocal box gets the midi on Ch 5 for the triads, but I have no sound at all. Hitting play and everything is fine for once through, but no 2nd chorus? Weird.

Hi John,
Unfreeze all tracks hit play and it will work - I think.
I had that happen to me. The frozen tracks are only frozen after one chorus.
Best regards Michee

Michee:
I tried unfreezing all the RTs and it doesn't make a difference. The tempo does not reset for me.
Are you saying that with all the RTs frozen that the tempo also did not reset for you but that AFTER you unfroze the tracks, then the tempo DID reset?
Thanks.
John

Unfreezing the tracks didn't make a difference with my computer.

Hi John, I was referring to John Conley Quote:
I attempted to get it to play the A at the 'ending' so I put in a second chorus. Now this is odd, there is no output for the 2nd chorus. My vocal box gets the midi on Ch 5 for the triads, but I have no sound at all. Hitting play and everything is fine for once through, but no 2nd chorus? Weird.
If you add a 2nd chorus and the tracks are frozen the second chorus is played but quiet. You have to unfreeze the tracks then play to generate the 2nd chorus.
It makes no difference to the tempo EXCEPT
because the tempo has been reduced to 90bpm at bar 7 it is not reset because the tempo remains at 90bpm until the 2nd time through bar 5 then it changes to 95bpm. It never reaches 100 because the 1st bar would need to be set at 100bpm.
Sorry if I have misled you.
Best regards Michee

Midi style worked as should here, after unfreezing the tracks and selecting Chet.sty. I do not have the Chet RT.
