Hi all,

It has been a long time since i have used my BIAB 2008 but I am trying to get back into it but instead of Windows XP I am now using Windows 7 Home edition. I am having two problems.

1 - BIAB is locking up my entire PC so that I have to do a hard boot to get back to running anything. Is there some kind of fix or do I need to upgrade BIAB to run with Windows 7 Home? It is the only application that does this but then again it is by far the oldest application I am running.

2 - When it does work, before I minimize it and then try to go back to it, I get a series of echoes. Not just one but many. I have been looking at help and midi options but have not found anything to effect it.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee

I've had some problems as well...BIAB is doing some strange things on occasion - I save a file with a new name, and make changes - when I play the new one back, it seems to have put the new one on top of the old one, and I hear both versions at once....
Also - having issues with some chords... especially when I define a bass note other than the root... it plays the chord but ends it abruptly before the measure ends, and leaves only drums... very strange... but if I change the bass note to 'none' (plays the root) all is fine..... ???

And don't forget about the '08/Win 7 bug with Edit Audio - if you choose Adjust Output Level Quick, you will have to reload BIAB from scratch....

So I guess 2008 should be compatible with Windows 7 if there is an official bug for it?
Sounds like you are doing ok with it.
My install is from years ago and has just been copied to this pc.
I think I need to download a new copy from PG Music.
I sent an email to tech support to see if they have a record of me paying for 2008 and can allow me to download it again from them. I seem to remember having to do this before after upgrading pc's and there was some nominal fee like 5 dollars or something to do it. I am just hoping that I am still on their books.

I could imagine that there could be some very strange things happening with Windows 7 as it was created long after BIAB 2008.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee

I recall several other recent posts about BIAB 2008. It may or may not be the posters above. But I thought we had established that BIAB 2008 does work under Windows 7, even if version 2008 was released in the end of 2007. Correct? And Mac is correct about Windows 7; I've been running that for well over a year.

Matt, I don't doubt that you have been running Windows for well over a year, but it would have had to have been the Release Candidate and/or beta to be in that time frame. The retail version of Windows 7 wasn't put on the market until October 22, 2009. I was lucky enough (or unfortunate enough depending on your viewpoint) to be selected to host one of the launch parties fow Windows 7, so that date is burned into my memory. My launch party was a nightmare, because instead of doing a clean install, I did an upgade on top of Vista. It was quite a few weeks and several Windows 7 updates before the BSODs stopped haunting my Windows 7 upgrade. It made for a very interesting launch party though.

There may be a few very minor compatibility considerations, due to (as you say) Windows 7 being released after BB2008. However, nothing like what you describe. Your problems sound to me like hardware or sound card driver issues. Are you using MME or ASIO audio drivers? Can you give us some details of your MIDI and Audio driver setup in Band-in-a-Box, as well as some basic computer info (e.g. sound card, processor, memory, latptop/desktop). Where do you have Band-in-a-Box installed? Did you upgrade to Windows 7 from XP, or did you purchase a new computer with Windows 7 pre-installed?

Keith, correct on both statements.

As you know from the Tascam User Forum, I was one of the early ones to have success figuring out how to use the FW-1884 under Windows 7, both the release candidate and shipping versions.

That's funny about your release party. I have mostly installed Windows 7 clean, but I did one over Vista and had no problems. Too bad yours did, especially at that time. But you are in good company, with Steve Jobs. Bill Gates had one crash, too, in a major presentation several years back.

Andrew, I understood that one cannot upgrade directly from XP to Windows 7. Unless something has changed since Windows 7 was rolled out... Good idea, though, to get all the facts about Jim's system.
