I almost always use triplet mode. I understand that some styles automatically come up in 16th (non-triplet). If I switch to triplet in options everything works fine, but after I save the tune, When I load it again it has triplet turned off. Can I stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance.

I tried with Preferences > Options > Notation and got the same result. The triplet notation is not saved / restored.
[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

I even tried Save Special > Save Song with Patches and Harmony, but this didn't work either.
I even froze the track and saved and that didn't work...

After selecting Triplet notation, freezing and saving the song:

After reloading the saved song with the frozen piano track:
[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

I don't think that this feature is either correctly saved or correctly restored (or both), or is unintended.

Hi.
I'm guessing that by "Triplet Mode" you mean the checkbox option in "Preferences | Notation Options" called "Triplet Resolution (Swing)".

If this is the case, I just loaded a song with an EV style (and even-note-based style), set this option, saved the song and then exited BIAB. When I reloaded the song, this option had indeed been deselected. This makes sense to me, though, since an even-based style is created around having 4 x 1/16th notes per 1/4-note beat. The triplet-resolution option does not make BIAB play in a swing style, it simply sets the type of note entry and display when using notation mode. In other words, this setting does not affect BIAB's performance in any way. It is a setting to adjust notation-entry and note-display options.

Regards,
--Noel

I tend to agree with Noel's assessment above. It probably is not intended for this to be a permanent option.

Thinking further on this, perhaps if Triplet Resolution in Preferences > Notation Window Options is not a saved feature of Global Preferences, then instead this value should be part of Song Settings ( <Ctrl>N ), and therefore the triplet notation setting lives with the individual saved song itself.

If it is local to a single song, and not saved in Preferences, then there seems to be a much more logical place to store this value.

Any thoughts on that?

Hi Audio Track.

It would be good if E. H. Hackney can give a little more detail about what he needs the option to do for him.

I have sometimes activated the option when notating triplets in an even-beat song when using Notation Editor. Mostly, though, I use Piano Roll to do that, because I can set the note value and note duration to triplets. I've also used it in the past when I have wanted triplets to display better when I create a printout of the lead sheet (that was a BIAB few versions ago, though).

Thanks, Noel for your feedback. Good points.

I have never really expected this to be a 'global' setting. That's why I now inquired if this would be more suited to a 'local' song song setting value.

Interesting question. Within one song I may have triplet resolution on for some notation and off for the rest, or vice-versa. But I could live with the ‘majority’ setting being saved with the song IF there were a clear visible indicator. Something like +2 transposition in effect.

I agree with Noel.

BIAB's notation display tries to show the notation as it would appear on sheet music, whilst also allowing the timing and expression to be unmodified. That's great when intended but can be confusing when not expected. I think triplet-mode is largely for note-entry purposes.

Swing-time songs set it automatically, even-time songs clear it automatically.

There is a loosely related option to show or hide rests, which was the root of how I learned about BIAB's under-the-surface behaviour. It was hiding rests that I definitely did not want to be hidden. That's on a menu somewhere.

Yes, there needs to be some form of indicator that this setting has been manually engaged, but back to the original issue, it's not saved in BIAB Preferences, so how or where should it be handled?

I think you called it: saving the status with each song makes sense to me.
