Well, I've tried enough on my own, and I need some help. It seems that when I generate a song in BIAB [2010.5 (303)] that contains mostly RealTracks but also a track of MIDI strings, which plays fine in BIAB, if I then save the song (.SGU) and open it up in RealBand [2010.5 (1)], after a couple of bars the chords start sustaining into each other, and it sounds bloody awful. It will occasionally snap out of it, but then inevitably start up again after a few beats. This is regardless of whether I use ForteDXi or TTS-1.

When I looked at the Event List, I saw a bunch of CC64's in there, toggling between 127 and zero; so I started deleting all the 127 ones, and it solved the problem - if you can call that a solution. Meanwhile, I call up the BIAB Help File and search for info on midi events, and... I *thought* I had found the answer when I saw the mention of an "Event Edit list". Well, apparently that just lets you mess with events in the Melody, Soloist and lyric tracks, not the accompaniment/rhythm tracks. I was hoping to find something like Sonar's Event List which lets you instantly narrow it down to just CC's or notes, or whatever, which you can then mass delete with a single keystroke - which is a little more sophisticated than the "one at a time" tedium of RealBand's event thingy (as currently configured)...(or as currently understood by me)...

Anyway, do you guys think I've got a setting wrong in either BIAB or RB? I can't see how this could be the norm. Thanks for any insights.

Bobby K.

CC64 is the Sustain Pedal, usually reserved for Piano parts.

Did you by chance invoke Strings on the Piano track?

Or are you using a Realtrack Style that already has a String track on it?

Does or did this song play back okay when still in BiaB?

Hello Bobby,

I would suggest that you first install the update patch for RealBand, to eliminate a couple of possibilities.
http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windows_realband.htm#2010_5_2b

Next, I would suggest that you try playing the song in Band-in-a-Box using the same synth (i.e. Forte or TTS-1) if you haven't already. This is to confirm that the problem doesn't happen in Band-in-a-Box even when you are using the same synth.

In the mean-time, you should know that RealBand does have a very flexible way to search for and delete various types of events. To delete all controller 64's with a value of 127 (sustain on), you could:

1. Select the region of interest. One way to select a whole track is to press Ctrl+A
2. Edit menu |Cut, and select the "use data filter' radio button. Press OK.
3. De-select all checkboxes except for controller, set 64 to 64 as the range, and set 127 to 127 as the value. Press OK.

The tracks are all as BIAB arranges them automatically, with the following style as it appears in Style Picker:

=FBL12SP EV 16 65 LitePop w/12str.FpkAc.Guit(65RT) SD#94

It loads with a string track automatically, and I don't mess with any track whatsoever. All I do is enter a few chords and part markers, then save as an .SGU. I then close BIAB and open RB, which plays the song with intermittent stuck notes.

Plays perfectly in BIAB, both pre-save and post (as .SGU). Thanks.

Hey thanks. That did work. Although, the crucial 4th step is:

4: Finally, click on an empty track before hitting 'Delete'. (otherwise ALL your events and notes will be deleted from the target track, despite only having 'Cntl', '64 to 64' and '127 to 127' selected in the Data Filter).

Yeah, the song plays through both TTS-1 and ForteDXi perfectly in BIAB, and through both terribly (intermittent stuck chord notes) in RB.
