Hi,

For some reason BIAB external 10.5 will not start. I looked around on the forum and did the following:

....safely unplug external drive > close down > wait 20 secs and reboot > then plug the two cables into the computer first then into the External Drive last

......try error checking the drive (Right click, Properties, Tools, Error check)

I'm running xp, it's doing it on my desktop and the laptop so I would say it's the drive. It marches through the folders when I first plug it in and when I click on the .exe either in the root folder or in the bb folder, I get the biab tab in the task bar but the program never starts. I use avast free and it pretty much leaves all my other external drives and programs alone.

It's like the .exe is corrupted or can't find a certain file.

the drive was making a muted click noise the other day but my old biab usb drive would do that also sometimes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

If you can see the folders for the new Drive then it is working. Have you actually installed the new version using the Setup installer? Read the "Read Me" document in Root Directory of your new drive.

We've seen a few of the drive cases become disconnected or at least not making full connection to the drive inside the case.

The solve for that one so far has been to open up the case, usually by pressing in the little tabs on either side of the end caps and pulling the end caps out, then disconnect the drive itself from the case's electronics and reconnect the drive again, making sure that the connector is well seated. Then reassemble the case ends and try to use the drive again.

So far, that has worked for quite a few people.

The fix mentioned by Mac worked for me.

Also, if it was working then stopped, did you just add another USB device? If so, remove it and try again.

Hi,

Lynn, Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and used the setup install also.

Haven't tried Mac's suggestion, it is looking at all the folders on the drive so I dont' know why a connection would just affect the .exe, but I will try it. I just did a boot scan of the drive and checked all the sectors and it passes.

On Matt, it's doing it on different computers, and I didn't add a usb drive and I've rebooted with no usb devices (except the mouse) a couple of times.

Thanks!

Hi Mac,

Mine has 2 screws at the end my the USB insert, is that the end you're talking about? The other end has plastic tabs but they don't seem to move.

Thanks

Your diagnosing sounds like you are doing all the right things. I did not like the mention of the "muted click noise" and that may well mean the drive is on its way out.

Let me try one more unlikely suggestion. Even though you can activate the drive and see files, I wonder if you are getting enough power. You mentioned two cables. Is this one of those drives with a "Y" USB cable? If so, I only found success using a powered USB hub on the short end of the cable. I could see the files but did not have enough juice to run them until I did that.

Did you reboot the computer? If not, take a look at the task manager and see if bbw.exe is running there somewhere. If so, either end the task or reboot. If you have access to another usb cable, give that a try as well.
Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Wil at PGmusic zeroed in on two files that were corrupted.
