1) You are not the first to report something misbehaving in BIAB where no one else can reproduce the strange behavior. This has happened with me in the past.
2) WAS has been a serious problem for me in the past with BIAB. My system just goes bonkers when this is used. Please try the MME driver.

Good luck
Will try. Thanks....

Yes, WAS has never worked for me either. I have BiaB using MME drivers and my DAW Studio One Pro using ASIO drivers, thus I can use both simultaneously.

Thunderthud,

The SGU file works fine for me.

If the problem persists when you change to MME, this is what I would try next. It is the ultimate in "factory reset" and sometimes when the resets under Options do not work, this approach does.

1) Under options, save your preferences setting (this means you can easily return to them if needed).
2) Exit all instances of BIAB.
3) Go to \bb\preferences and rename the file intrface.bbw to intrface.bbw.old and MySetup.DK to MySetup.DK.old
4) Restart BIAB. This will force the creation of new setup files.
5) After you have started BIAB, you will need to manually setup you MIDI and Audio drivers. (Do not simply load in the preferences that you saved because any issues that were present in the saved file will overwrite the new files.)

Is the info in Noel’s post available anywhere that we can just link to it in cases like this? Maybe a post in the Tips and Tricks Forum, or an FAQ?

Sorry but no cigar. I have placed an audio file at the link below that I recorded by starting playback by double clicking on Bar 1, Then clicking on Play button, and then repeated. (Recorded by loopback of what I was listening to). The drums are real drums and remain at same level. Clicking on Play cause massive volume change, compared to double clicking on Bar to start playback. Would that be a clue?

You've patiently tried suggestions, and you've said this happened to you on earlier builds. At this point, I recommend you send an email to support@pgmusic.com and reference this thread.

As Dan mentioned, there have been couple of times a weird problem affected only one person. One example I recall is for only those people running a certain AMD CPU. Some combination of your software and hardware may be doing this just to you.

I do particularly wonder about this statement: "This kind of thing has been typical when using the default synthesizer. If I put a separate synth on individual tracks, they stay put. "

Just an F.Y.I.

I had to revert to "WAS" instead of "MME", since MME was causing "Stuttering" issues.
This occurred consistently when I'd adjust mixer faders, and also when playback was started.
Reverting to "WAS" fixed the issue immediately.

a bit confused.... are you saying you fixed the volume slide problems by switching from WAS to MME and then back to WAS? Or did you fix the MME stuttering by going back to WAS? What problem did you fix?

Nope . It did NOT fix the problem I originally mentioned in this thread!

My fix was for a suggestion given here to switch to MME. This caused a new problem of stuttering, unrelated to original issue.

Sorry, that I caused confusion.

Hi Thunderthud.

I've pretty much reached the end of my ideas in relation to your problems.
Out of curiosity, do you run dual (or more) monitors? I've noticed from issues here on the forum that multiple monitors can sometimes create issues.
Also, have you tried running BIAB in 32-bit mode to see if the problem still exists. (To start 32-bit BIAB, go to your \bb folder and double-click on BBW.EXE.)

Regards,
--Noel

No, Don't run dual monitors. But will check out 32 bit version to see if different. Thanks.

Do keep us in the loop if the 32 bit change resolves anything. Your issue seems to be curious indeed.

Just a thought.......if you open the BIAB file in RB do you get tthe same problem? if you set the volumes and then save as a BIAB file does it behave when you reopen in BIAB?

First... I don't have the same problem when opening the file in RB, moving the faders, then hitting play, etc.
Levels stay where I put them. Same synth, VSTSynthfont64.

And, yes I do have the same issue when saved in RB, then opened in BIAB.
The mixer levels don't hold and stay where I put them.

Thanks!

well at least that seems to rule out volume changes embedded in the midi - or at least seems to. from your earlier posts, seems you have had this problem for a while. i'm out of suggestions - any experts with any ideas why RB behaves and BIAB doesns't?

I just scanned this thread. Maybe I may have overlooked it but if I didn't what is your audio interface, commonly called sound card? Also are you using the same drivers in RB as in BiaB?

Hopefully you are not using the Realtek sound card; they are good for audio play back and movies/tv but not for music creation. If you are using an other audio interface you can increase your buffers to eliminate the MME stuttering.

Hi... I gave this topic a rest for a while... But, still having this issue.... but only with VSTSynthfont64.
Got new computer, fresh installation.
I set VSTSynthfont64, as the default synthesizer (eithher the version supplied by BIAB, or the current version 3.601),
Levels jump from where I set them, when I hit play. (Doesn't happen, with same songs, if using Coyote or TTS-1 as the default synth).
If I import a MIDI file to the Melody track and install a separate instance of VSTSoundsyth64 on the melody track, it works like a dream (On that track and not using a default synthesizer).
Just can't use it as the default synth. VSTSyntfont64, sounds so much better.

Also, similar issue in Realband.

Hi Thunderthud.

I've just tested Synthfont64 (3.601) and I could re-create the problem (I only tried BIAB and the volume sliders in the mixer). It seems as though BIAB is not sending the volume setting of the mixer through to the synth when (re)Play is pressed. (The volume adjusts fine when the song is playing.) The position of the slider doesn't change when 'Play' is pressed, but the instrument on the track plays at the original volume and ignores the volume setting.

I'll report this to the PG Music team.

--Noel

UPDATE: I've just tried it again, and now it is working fine. This is weird. I'll see if I can find out why it didn't work and then did work smile

If anyone else is curious and wants to test it, below is what I did.

Quote
1) Set VSTSynthfont64 (v3.601) as the default synth.
2) I loaded the demo song for ST_ELMO.STY (a MIDI-only style) and generated and played the song.
3) I soloed the Piano track and set the volume to zero on the mixer.
4) Then I pressed "Play" to replay the song without generating.
5) Even though the volume on the mixer was set to zero, the piano track played at the original volume.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
