In a statement the WEBMASTER has indicated:

"We're getting more posts with advertisting in them.
Please refrain from advertisements in the forums. These posts will get removed."

Could the webmaster please clarify whether a link to a site or product in the forum that would enhance BIAB and would be of possible interest to users of the PGMusic site is now not permitted.?
If so then this would also need to include the products advertised by PGMusic (e.g SD2, Helicon, Finale etc ) would it not?.

Cheers.

This topic has moved on and probably for all intents and purposes has now closed but the way I read it is this.

Pg don't mind a brief signature on your post to a site or mention of hardware or software and link in your post,
BUT blatant advertising (that is other than a brief announcement) to products for band in a box, that is trying to get the user to buy that product and is so posted as to make that product seem superior to band in a box products is definitely not allowed. This makes sense to me as after all this is PGmusic’s website and forum so why should they suffer because of someone "trying it on"...etc

This is my personal interpretation of the webmasters announcement, and I believe he had to do so.

Strange logic.

i don't think any company needs to outlaw advertising its own products on its own forum page.

The webmaster's post was not a suicide pact...

Thanks Mac. But if you dont mind me saying so - strange reply since the products I referred to are not PgMusic's products. (SD2, Fianale ??)

I welcome these interpretations but a clear statement from the webmaster would be useful.

Frank you're either;
1. you've been in the Outback too long
2. trying to start trouble were there is none.

PgMusic does not owe you an explanation as to what they put on their site. They obviously have an arrangement to sell these products. Other Products

Whoops! This should be re: Frank, not Silvertones...

Well, where I come from, whatever PGMusic is selling is consdiered to be their products. Regardless of whether or not they developed or manufactured them, they are stocking them and retailing these products for profit, hence they are theirs to advertise as well.

Surely you can see the obvious difference.

So here we have a regular, albeit highly intelligent but often waspish, contributor to this forum extolling the virtues of the Ketron SD2 sound module manufactured in Acona, Italy. Posting actual examples of its capabilities on this forum and announcing “Look Ma No Realtracks”. Is that advertising or not? Well it was good enough to convince me - I bought one.

I have on several occasions referred to the East-West products of sound modules and SONAR because they can enhance BIAB generated tracks as I showed with some examples. Is that advertising or not?

Or is it that it is only advertising if the “manufacturer” does it “blatantly” (what ever that means) is it considered to be advertising? Well, what about a well-known “manufacturer”, trying to make a living, who has for many years produced many alternative and superior midi styles in my opinion, thereby enhancing BIAB posts on this forum. So is this then advertising or not? Doesn’t seem much different from the first example.

All I’m asking the webmaster are the guidelines to what constitutes advertising as far as PGMusic is concerned. Not cynicism, or others interpretation, just a clear detailed statement. As it stands the directive is open to too much interpretation for users to “guess” what is meant to be “advertising”.

Cheers F

This is a personal attack and as such is against the rules of this forum.

I think advertising and user recommendations are two completely different things (even with links to the site where you can find said recommendations). From what I've seen (and I, like Mac, have been on the forums here for a long time) can see a huge difference between advertising and user recommendations.

Personal attacks, however, are strictly out!

Hello Frank,

You asked for an explanation from the webmaster, but other than the Thread that the webmaster posted (and it seems very clear to me what he/she meant) I would be very surprised if he/she will or feels the need to clarify what has been already stated in the thread.

Let's look at it from a general point of view. Let’s take a company and call it Music4u that is in business to make some money and has to do so to pay its way, employer wages and other bills. It sells its products and also has an arrangement with some other companies to sell their products too at a profit to Music4u.

If another company lets call it Music4u2 develops some software for Music4u main product and posts on Music4u forum about it, then it is up to Music4u to decide whether that post is allowed.

They may allow it for some time even years but it is a voluntary arrangement which can be withdrawn at any time, especially if Music4u2 starts using a more aggressive form of advertising on music4u's website that could or may affect music4u's sales.

Once again my interpretation.

Anyways I feel everyone even including me has gone off on a tangent and in a way I feel that it’s only fair to PGmusic to keep their main forum for their flagship product free for all band in a box music related activities.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
