give an ear squint at gordy's latest song here:

http://drop.io/2jz3l2r/asset/tears-in-heaven-by-gordon-wav?ref=yahoo

he complained about sync problems using audacity but i don't hear it.

constructive critiques always welcome.

thanks for listening.

Don,

I am hearing some buzz in the vocal mix. However, I can still hear he has a great voice !! The vocal sync is off a smidge, but nothing that stands out bad. The buzz does stand out and is probably from the mic cable?

He sings very well, nice tone and pitch in his voice. I like it !! He sings great and worth the time to re-cut the vox track without the humm/buz artifacts, IMO.

Thanks for posting and let him know I appreciated his music. Thanks,

Trax

Don, I really liked the song...... i liked the way your son performed the song.
The bass was spectacular... however, i would have liked to have heard a little bit
of reverb on your son's vocal.

Other than that......... i loved the song...... and still do.

Thanks for sharing!!!

is that a commercial backing track, or did you/he create it? It sounds very good! Likewise, the singing sounds good to me.

This is one of those cases in which (to my ears) the vocals and background don't sound like they occupy the same "sonic space" ...Possibly because the two tracks just got saved into one file without any mastering to bind them together?

Mastering is not my forte.. maybe somebody else has ideas about how to make different tracks sound like they're in the same room.

Reminds me a lot of Eric Clapton's song along the same lines.

Don,

I only had time to listen to a minute or so of the song this morning. Your son has a very good voice. I'm sure you're very proud of him.

I just went back to finish listening to it and I'm getting a dead link.

I don't know if everyone knows the story behind the song, but it's a truly sad real life story. I don't know how Eric Clapton sings it without choking up. I couldn't do it.

Don,

As others have pointed out - there is a nasty buzz in the vocal track. The backing tracks are pretty well done - with a little C&W flair put in there with the pedal steel synth stuff. The fretless bass is pretty convincing as well.

If your son was nearby in Colorado Springs, I'll help him get the recording of the vox done proper. There's a couple places where he's overdriving something in the vocal track as well.

scott, that's a generous and tempting offer. unfortunately he lives in seattle. i'm sure he would welcome your help and/or advice. he recently bought a nice mic which make/model escapes me offhand but he is using an on-board sound card which, i feel, is seriously limiting his results. for my part, i am just glad to see him getting back into singing. he has a beautiful operatic voice and superb range and control. he works graveyard as a king county sheriff's deputy so has time to work with you. if you are willing to help him i will pm his email address to you. he will be squatin' in cotton.

as they say at the foot of pike's peak in manitou springs, co: "much grass, amigo!"

I don't hear a "buzz" such as AC hum or the like.

What I hear sounds like a hard drive or two being picked up by the mic...

bob, as of a moment ago the link works fine and i respect your opinion. please try it again or i can make an mp3 and email it to you. it's now a big .wav file of about 45 meg.

mac, i think you are "spot on" (brit expression). i hear that very pronounced since you mentioned it. i just knew something was not right and needed your ears.

The 'buzz' that I hear is not 60 Hz hum, but rather a distinct 'buzz', perhaps 20-30 Hz or so for the repetition rate, and quite broad band in nature.

It is only there when the vox are present. It does seem very regular, not erratic like USB noise that you can sometimes get in an on-board soundcard that will pick up mouse movement and other electrical noises that can be present throughout a laptop.
