Have tried to render a BIAB song to a WAV file, but with no success. I have BIAB 10, Windows 7 64 bit with RealTek sound card and Edirol UA 25 for audio input. The US 25 is my default sound card. BIAB seems to render the song, but when I import it into another DAW program or attempt play it in Windows Media player, there is no sound. What settings do I need to adjust to accomplish this? Thanks, lsconner

Hi Isconner, Here's a PGMusic FAQ on rendering. http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq20.htm#12It could be that you do not have the VSC/DXi activated. I take it that when you say your version of BIAB is "10", it is version 2010. If this is the case, you will need to use the Coyote WT as your DXi since you have a 64-bit operating system. If your version of BIAB is indeed BIAB 10, a much older version, someone with experience in these older versions will answer your call if you let the forum know. Regards, Noel

Thanks, Noel. Yes, I have 2010 BIAB. Will try your suggestion and the tech support one.

I have another, related question. Rendering to MP3 results in a much smaller file than .wav. Personally, I find MP3's generally to be perfectly acceptible in terms of sound quality. (Let's not debate that, to each her own, sounds fine to me.)
But is there any danger, in using a "lossy" rendering format like MP3 for backing tracks, that artifacts or missing sounds might hamper my recordings, to a greater degree than I actually HEAR in regular MP3's, (which starting at 160-192k sound "cd quality" to my ears.)
OR- is it true, as I hope it is, that if MP3 sounds good to me, then no reason not to go for smaller files and use it for backing tracks...?
Hope my question is clear. For home demo's, any reason NOT to use MP3?

I render to .wav and then use a DAW program (WavePad) to save to an mp3. We use mp3's on our gigs and they seem fine for us. I'm an amateur, but I would think that the quality of your equipment would have a lot to do with the sound you get out. FWIW

Keep your MP3's above 160, and it will be fine for live work. Actually i render to 320 for all my MP3s

"Rendering" in the BiaB sense is old hat. Just drag the track (or Combo for all the tracks) directly into your DAW. Quick n' easy. No fuss no bother. Greatest thing since sliced bagels.

Band in a Box 10? Then 11, then 12, then 200?
No I think the drag and drop happened in 2010.
Version 10 is too long in the tooth....
An upgrade is required before that happens.
What is probably going on is this version pre-dates the flood, and thus the Dxi synth is needed to render midi tracks to a sound.
I stand to be corrected, just don't handcuff we to the wall sheriff.

So is my process old hat? Seriously, I'm asking, I'm just figuring this out as I go.
This is what I've been doing: Create backing tracks in BIAB. Render that to wav. Open that wav in audacity, record vocal tracks. Export each vocal track as a seperate wav. Import those, plus the original BIAB render into into Melodyne for pitch correction and harmonies, etc. Do final rough mix in Melodyne, adding reverb, panning etc.
So there is a lot of rendering in my process. Is there a better way to do this?
My next step is to try using RealBand... I guess this might be the best way for me to customize the BIAB midi tracks?... so I guess that will be my only "DAW" per se, but I don't need to drag and drop there, do I? Can't I just open BIAB files there? Thanks for any advise, Bandmoose.

I have a had a similar problem with rendering and playback (Win7 BIAB 2010) and solved part of the problem by getting the latest update which installs coyotewavetableDXi. See forum "midi to wave C:\bb\STOMBBX.EXE" I now have the problem that the wave file only plays the first 8 bars. If i get any more info. i will let you know.

One thing to remember using the built in card along with a external interface can be very problematic. It can introduce a number of issues, the worst being a serious timing issue due to clock differences. I would use the Edirol UA 25 only as input and output, better everything.

I keep forgetting we have Dr&Dr. I render everything to .WAV (each instrument to its own .WAV), and then import the .WAVs to a DAW for vocals and further work.
