Mac thanks again for more suggestions. I tried running the system with the bit rate locked and unlocked in the Layla20 software and it did not make any difference
Andrew thanks for taking the time. I have answered you questions below.
Open up Band-in-a-Box and go to the MIDI Driver Setup.-- What are all the MIDI output driver options listed there?
Microsoft MIDI Mapper
Layla20 Midi
Microsoft GS wavetable SW Synth
A: SB Live! MIDI synth
B: SB Live! MIDI Synth
SB Live! MIDI UART
-- Are you using a DXi synth? No.
-- In the Audio Settings, is MME or ASIO selected? ASIO is selected as Layla is an ASIO audio
-- If you open the Band-in-a-Box song \bb\Tutorial - Audio Harmonies\Listen.MGU, do you hear both the vocal track and the MIDI style? On “Listen”I hear the just the vocal track although I can’t see if the extension is “.mgu”
-- Which version of Windows do you have? Windows XP Pro SP3
-- If Windows XP, what devices are selected in Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio? Sound playback default device is Layla20 5-6 analog out. Sound recording device is Layla 20 1-2 in. I use the 5-6 analog out because Cu base “likes it” better. Layla20 is a 10 in 10 out rack.
-- I would expect that you'll be able to hear both MIDI and audio parts if you select the VSC-DXi as your MIDI output in Band-in-a-Box - can you try that. I don’t have VSC DXi as an output drive although I do have it as a box to click “use VSC/DXi synth. When i click that box all I get is a “braaaaaaaaccccckkkk” sound that the only way to stop it is to exit the program.
Hopefully you may have some other suggestions.
I did find some interesting comment about Layla20 on AudioMasters September 2008. Which ranged from incorrect install, bad resistors, not enough voltage to drive card, etc.
Thanks for taking the time with my problem. Dennis
