First let me say I love my upgrade to 2010.5. The Organ and Guitar RT's are great, but, Ok, now the option to go to a
4 bar ending to let the song fade out in a natural fasion. Somthing you could use as a backing track, to gig with...
So I ran off about 15 tunes, some from the All Real Tracks demos, changed some things and edited using Settings for This Song.
When I get to the song ending, more than a few have strange note choices and/or bad sounds that don't fit the ending, or
somthing that should not even be there (like someone forgot to pull a fader down during RT sessions). I could overlook
these if I could put the mute at that ending bar position (with Settings for this song) and have the mute work. The idea of
the change to a 4 bar was to improve the endings that were chopped off at 2 bars, not to create somthing that needs a
workaround in order to be used.

Did I miss somthing here? Is there a way to edit these out? Automating Mute works fine through SFTS while in the body of
the song, but these sounds happen after the last bar in the Ending section, so even if I Mute the offending RT in every
bar of the Ending, it still gets played. Can someone give me a clue?? Thanks.

Hi J8,

Out of curiosity, what is the number of the Realtrack(s) that is causing the problem? I discovered an ending problem with #599 (Mandolin, Rhythm bluegrass Doc EV). When I unchecked both the "use 4 bar endings" and the "speed up generation of realtracks" (under Opt >> Preferences >> Realtracks), the ending worked properly. All other Realtracks that I have so far tried have worked fine with both the above options operating.

Regards,
Noel

Hi J8stringer,

Make sure that you have visited the BiaB for Windows Update Page and downloaded and installed not only the latest patch, but also these Realtracks updates:

"There has recently (May 03-2010) been a huge number of enhancements to older RealTracks instruments, including vastly improved endings for most RealTracks.'

That may be the solve for what you are encountering, or maybe you've got something else going on.

Hello,

If you can tell us the chord in your ending bars, and a few RealTracks that you find are having a problem with the ending, we can test them out here. Alternatively, you could send a sample file as an attachment to support @pgmusic.com.

Thanks for the replies. Mac I just received my 2010.5 upgrade in August. This is the Audiophile version on the
USB external HD. I thought it had the latest updates, as of shipping (end of August). Andrew, as I run through my
set tonight, I will make a note of the RT file #'s and then post them. I have checked Use 4 Bar Endings, because
they do sound better than the 2 bar cut off endings. Even a 4 bar, held chord, fade-out ending is better.
Having to take the song file to a DAW for wave editing, then back to BIAB, is a hassel. Doesn't Mute work
on RTs in the Endings section of songs? It works fine in the body of the song.

Anyway, I will post later with the list...

Thanks for the assistance.

Some "family stuff" came up tonight so I didn't get through my whole set list. Of the songs I did practice with, these
5 jumped out as the issue I listed above. I am so happy with the sound of the new RTs, that I wouldn't even care
about these odd bits and pieces, if I was able to Mute them away, but I can't get it to work on RT endings.

Here's the songs:

1. All Real Tracks - Slow Pop Ballad with driving El. Guit. Soloist
sty - POPSLO.sty
#809 Guitar Soloist (sliding noise) at bar 36, after ending

2. ART - Slow Sw 8ths Blues with Organ and Guitar Solo
#568 Guitar Soloist (feedback after ending)

3. RT & MIDI - Blues Song set for 8 choruses
sty - RhyBlue1.sty
#863 Guitar Electric

4. ART - Rhythm Blues Roadhouse Ev120 set for 8 choruses
sty- Road_or Fast Ev8 Blues with Organ (120RS)
#580 Guitar (rhythm continues to play after end) cannot Mute track at that bar.

5. ART- Fast Pop with El. Guitar and Organ set for 4 choruses
sty - POPOFST - fast pop with organ (165RS)
#412 Guitar, Electric Soloist (El. Guit. strums after ending) cannot Mute

There are more, and not always the Guitar track. I will list more as I find them in days to come, but
I have to stop for the night. Thanks for the assistance. I would like to solve this problem.

Whenever BiaB starts doing something that it is not supposed to be doing and repeats that bad thing, the first thing I try is a Reboot of the computer. Get all those bits back where they belong.

If that doesn't work, then I try Options -> Return to Factory Settings and hit the first button there inside BiaB.

And if that doesn't brring joy, I go back to the above menu item and try the second button down, which resets everything that the first button resets plus resets the MIDI synth choice and the Audio card setup.

BiaB writes to certain files when it opens and when it closes properly. If, for some reason, BiaB freezes, crashes or exhibits some other situation where the chance to properly write to those files and close them happens, those files can become corrupted. Return to Factory Settings often solves that problem in one button push by redoig those files from the default settings.

Good luck,

Hello,

Thanks for the additional information. I listened to those Realtracks #'s (except for #863 which isn't a guitar), and the endings sounded good to me. It is probably the chord you have in your ending bar. If you use one of the following chord types - maj, min, maj7, min7 - do the endings sound better? Another possibility is that the tempo of your song is very different from the native tempo of the RealTracks instrument, so you're hearing artifacts.

Thanks for the replies. To answer, I have not added any chords to the endings, nor have I changed tempo. The only thing I have changed is the key and number of choruses, sometimes not by an even # (such as a 3 chorus song going
to a 4 chorus song). I have had crashes while BIAB was up (like for no reason I will see "BIAB needs to close", then
CRASH), but if the file is bad, I should be able to go back to the original, do a "save as" and make a fresh copy
of the song. I will try that and post back.

But, why dosen't Mute work in the endings? That would solve everything.

Hi,

If there is no chord symbol typed into the ending bar, it would just be using whatever the previous chord is. If you could tell us some specific steps to test this out, that would be ideal. For example, "open demo file xxxxxx.MGU, tranpose to key of X, press Play, listen to bar X" - then we could be on the same page...

I understand Andrew. I will take some of the songs and recreate them, using the original files. I'll make a note of
what changes I do , then go to "save as" to make a new song file. I'll see if it happens again and post findings with
steps I took in the song edits that gave me the bad sounds. That will be a little later tonight. Thanks for hanging
in to see this resolved. I do appreciate the help.

All that crashing, you should do the Return to Factory Settings.

No telling what your intrface.bbw file looks like by now, it is likely corrupted. Return to Factory will rewrite it properly.

Thanks Mac, I will try that, but what do I need to make a note of in BIAB? Will this change everything I have set
in Preferences and other places? Does a Reset change just the song or the BIAB internal OS? Understand these
chashes happened while just sitting at idle, with nothing playing, just the chord page up.

Also, Andrew rather than go back heres the run down on what happened on three new songs.

1.Took a blues progression from the Blues Collection. I changed the style to an All Real Tracks style:
BLSW_GS w/ElGuitar Solo (120RS) (with a tempo of 120)
I changed the key to F, and the tempo to 128, I edited with "Setting for this song", this is a 12 chorus song.
At bar 1, I Muted strings (the lead guitar part), applying to All Choruses, then Muted again at bar 13 in the
12th chorus (the end of the song).

Problem: upon play, the drums were out of time with the other instruments, like out of place pushes.

I lowered the tempo to 118, no change, got worse. I regenerated 1X and all was good again, so I
froze the tracks. On the replay, timing was off again.

2. A second generic MIDI blues song, but I changed the style to ART- POPPNOF.sty Pop Piano Funky Texas Blues (100RS)
Set key to Bbm and Tem to 113 as a 12 chorus song. Played fine 5X

I reset chorus to 8X around. Problem: then the timing was off between instruments.

3. Song: Low Profile - Curtis M.sty demo. I changed style to C_ClayG.sty Clay-Country Rock
The only RT is #676 Guitar, acoustic strumming.
A 28 bar song in Bb, temp is 85, 5 choruses.

First time the RT continues to strum after ending.

I said I would list them so I wanted to get back to you. Mac, I will wait to hear what a Reset does before
I go ahead.

It just resets global Band-in-a-Box settings to their defaults. Take note of your MIDI and audio driver setup. Also, things like chordsheet display etc. It doesn't change your songs. You can save your current settings, and then revert to them later if you want. There are a couple of ways to do this. One way is to use the menu option 'Opt. | Save Preferences As...' If you want to return to those settings at a later date (such as if returning to factory settings doesn't solve the problem), then you can re-open your preferences with 'Opt. | Open Preferences...'

The second (more thorough) way is to save a backup of all the settings files manually. To do this, close Band-in-a-Box and open the bb folder. Sort the files by date modified, and you'll see all the settings files near the top (because they'll be the most recently modified files - like 'intrface.bbw' and 'mysetup.dk'. You can copy all of these files to a different location on your hard drive to save a complete backup of your current settings. You could then delete those files from the bb folder to return to factory settings. To revert to previous settings, just make sure the program is closed, then copy your backed-up files back into the bb folder.

Thanks for the info. I tried unsuccessfully to recreate the problems based on what you said there. Can you send those files (or other ones with a problem) to support@pgmusic.com? That would be best...

Also, please include information about what your MIDI output driver is, if you are using a DXi synth, and whether you are using ASIO or MME audio drivers.
