I have had a crazy month. My computer registry got corrupted right before I went in for a hip replacement and I ended up having to do clean install. I have loaded BIAB back up, done all the upgrades and added on the latest 10.5 build. Realtracks seems to be working fine but BIAB cannot find any of my realtrack files of which I have all of them except the latest as I missed the summer deal with my hip and computer crash. Any way I have checked the folders and the paths seem right. When I use the Verify button I get the following as an example:

INSTALL ERROR: RealTracks # 362(Set #1), RealTracks NOT found here C:\bb\RAcG.ST2, but RealTracks folder IS found here: C:\bb\RealTracks\Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085\ . Re-install r*.st2 r*.xt2 files to BB folder

INSTALL ERROR: RealTracks # 363(Set #1), RealTracks NOT found here C:\bb\realpedj.ST2, but RealTracks folder IS found here: C:\bb\RealTracks\Pedal Steel, Background Ev 085\ . Re-install r*.st2 r*.xt2 files to BB folder

INSTALL ERROR: RealTracks # 364(Set #2), RealTracks NOT found here C:\bb\RAcG10.ST2, but RealTracks folder IS found here: C:\bb\RealTracks\Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 065\ . Re-install r*.st2 r*.xt2 files to BB folder

INSTALL ERROR: RealTracks # 365(Set #2), RealTracks NOT found here C:\bb\RAcG11.ST2, but RealTracks folder IS found here: C:\bb\RealTracks\Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 085\ . Re-install r*.st2 r*.xt2 files to BB folder

I am sure I am doing something wrong or have something set wrong. Am I just going to have to uninstall and reinstall from the 2010 BIAB USB drive. I can run from the usb drive fine but prefer keeping things on my own hard drive to keep the USB ports open for other musical connections.

Any help would be appreciated. My hip is doing great by the way. I would recommend to anyone who is putting it off.

Thanks

Terry

Hi Terry,

Did you re-install BIAB from the USB drive after your Windows re-install?

If this was me, I'd simply do a complete re-install of BIAB. There is no need to uninstall first as BIAB will overwrite the files it needs to.

Regards,
Noel

Hi TerryB,

Sounds like you've really been having a time of it there.

First thing, here's a prayer that you heal up better than new.

As for the RealTracks, it sounds to me as if the RealTracks pointer has somehow changed from its default setting.

That's a simple enough one-place, one-change situation.

1) Click on the RealTracks toolbar icon (the saxophone) and select "Realtracks preferences".

2) Lower LH portion of the window that opens, make sure that "Use custom location for the realtracks" is not checked.

That should then point to the Realtracks folder in your bb folder, which is where the realtracks should be as the default install.

If they are someplace else, you could check that box instead and then use the browse feature to navigate to whatever drive and folder they ARE stored in and select it.

Note that there is also a big DEFAULT button at the bottom as well, if you installed the Realtracks to the bb realtracks folder, you could just hit that and it should do the same as unchecking the custom box.

Hello Terry,

Quote:

INSTALL ERROR: RealTracks # 362(Set #1), RealTracks NOT found here C:\bb\RAcG.ST2, but RealTracks folder IS found here: C:\bb\RealTracks\Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085\ . Re-install r*.st2 r*.xt2 files to BB folder

Run the "Band-in-a-Box Setup.exe" installer on the USB hard drive, choose option 2 (install Band-in-a-Box to hard drive), and leave the destination locations at their default settings. This will install all the st2/xt2 files to C:\bb, so it will fix that problem.

Note: you should reinstall the latest patches (to C:\bb) after doing this.

Thanks for the help, Noel, Mac and Andrew. Will give that a try and see if it clears up the problem.(which I am sure it will) I just started a new position at a church and need to come up with some more upbeat arrangements for some hymns and BIAB is just the ticket for that. I have been used to playing with folks that could read chord sheets but now find I need to produce written music for some of the instrumentalists. That will give me a chance to learn even more about this program.

Thanks again!

Terry (hip along)

Just updating my 2012 download to my BiaB PC ( up all night )
Can you please help me fix this? I need to have it working tonight.

I have done a rebuild on RealTracks
I have unchecked the RealTracks specific location box
I have reinstalled & reinstalled
Still getting this error

The install is telling you that, for example, on the RT #362, it is missing a file in the BB home folder, which is d:\bb in your case.

The specific file missing is D:\bb\RAcG.ST2.

You should search your hard drive for the file D:\bb\RAcG.ST2, and once you find it, copy all files of type .ST2 and .XT2 into your BB folder.

Likely this problem was caused by using a different folder as your main BB folder. If you were starting with a working BB folder, then the D:\bb\RAcG.ST2 file would already be present, as it was one of the very first RealTracks (from about 4 years ago).

Perhaps when you updated, you didn't get the program to overwrite your existing BB folder, that is the one that would already have the D:\bb\RAcG.ST2 file.

Found the file D:\bb\RAcG.ST2 in D:
Getting this....... after 2 reinstalls of RealTracts
================================

Not sure what you mean by "found the file in d:\" It isn't supposed to be on the root of the d:\ drive, it should be in d:\bb

Also, the main part of the fix was not just that one file, but once you find that one file, copy ALL FILES ending in ST2 or XT2 from the location that you find that one, to your d:\bb folders

No point in keeping re-installing RealTracks, you are likely just installing the updates, which are the latest 101 RealTracks, not the previous ones, which for some reason are not present as files like D:\bb\RAcG.ST2

BTW, I edited your message to remove the complete listing of missing RealTracks, to make it more readable. Essentially that report is telling you:

"The folder d:\bb contains NO RealTracks, ie files ending in ST2 or XT2 that start with letter R (eg.Realsax.st2, realsax.xt2)"

So you've got to find them (from a previous BB install, not from the update which is just the new ones)

It is unlikely that you updated an existing d:\bb folder, because it would have had all kinds of ST2 and XT2 files. So perhaps you have them in another folder, like on your old BB hard drive?

Anyway, you should be hunting for ST2 and XT2 files beginning with R, and when you find them, copy them to your BB folder. No point re-installing the latest RealTracks, you have them already.

Simple test:

Go to your BB folder in a DOS window (Start-cmd will get you there)

dir r*.st2
dir r*.xt2

This should list hundreds of files, all RealTracks related. If it doesn't then you need to find them, and add them to your BB folder. The cause of this would be that you didn't update on top of a previous version of BB, you made a new folder of BB, which won't have your old RealTracks.

>> Found the file D:\bb\RAcG.ST2 in D:\bb\RAcG.ST2

How many files do you have in d:\bb that begin with R and are either .st2 files or .xt2 files?

Its possible that you are not running the program d:\bb\bbw.exe, and are running some other program. Try start-run- and type d:\bb\bbw.exe

>>> # 104 RAcG. / G01.ST2 through -G061.XT2

If the line above states that you have a total of 104 ST2 files beginning with R, then that's only 104 RealTracks, and there are supposed to be 800 or so.

It's unlikely that you have been running the program from d:\bb succesfully (because that folder has so few st2/xt2 files.

Have you searched your hard drive for more r*.st2 and r*.xt2 files, including BB's hard drive, which has hundreds of them? There are 800+ st2 files, and 800+ xt2 files in all.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
