All the folks on Talk Bass Forum have been raving about the value of this thing. With a set of heavey gauge LaBella flats they say the sound is identical to the real deal. Also they say the quality of the components is excellent. We'll see when it gets here Wed. To bad Fender filed suit and made them change the head stock.Reports also is that the color of the actual guitar looks vintage and not like the picture. www.allparts.com carries parts for these as well. I'll probably get the bridge & pickup covers & maybe a tortoise shell pickguard. But hey can't go wrong for the price. New Bass

Looks like the Fender P Bass I used to play back in the psychedelic days. But it's much lighter. I think mine weighed close to 12 pounds (can you spell sore shoulder boys and girls?)
SX has a good reputation so you should be happy with it.
And I've always preferred flat wound strings on a P or J bass.

Silvertones, I have the P/J version of the same bass. Do not be surprised if the neck is kind of orange - mine is. However, it's a beautiful figured maple that if I really wanted to, I could re-finish to natural, not orange-fake-vintage.
Mine is about 4 years old.
Shielding is nice, pickups are not. They are very microphonic - just be prepared to swap them out. Since I don't ever slap or thumb-pop, I can get by without swapping.

I don't ever plan to refinish this thing. I bought it because I was tired of trying to do MIDI bass, or octave shift electric guitar. For that purpose, it's ace. I have had many 'proper' bass players play this thing and they really like it. Mine has a headstock that looks kind of like a Fender, but anyone with any familiarity with Fender knows that it's not a real Fender headstock. BTW, here's a photo I took of the back of the neck - I was very surprised to find the figuring on such an inexpensive instrument. Note the rather orange color.

Congrats on the new bass. I've heard nothing but good things about SX, I may be looking at one of their older tele's for Christmas if I can find the right one.
I play a Peavey Grind 5, and my 4 stringer is a neck thru jay Turser with passive/active soapbars, not a bad little bass as well. For my purposes, it doesn't make sense to spend what they want for a USA fender, The neck thru peavey is USA, and does the job quite well. I used Fender flats on the JT and Carvin Flats on the Peavey 5.
Maybe someday a good buy on a Carvin will come along.

I had a 1964 "P" when I was 15. The darn thing was bigger then me. Played it through a 100watt "homebrew" amp my dad built for me. 4/6L6's into a home made cab that he also built to Sunn specs with a pair of JBL D140's. It was nice to have a father that ran a wholesale electronics place and could also build stuff like that.

Speaking about basses, I just made my nephew a very happy man. I gave him my 1970 Fender Jazz bass two weeks ago. He always loved that guitar and I was going to will it to him. I got to thinking if I aged as well as my mother (now 92 and still going strong), he may never get it. I had a lot of fond memories about this instrument as I played it in a very versatile 6 piece cabaret style band. We played every weekend (some Wednesdays and Thursdays) for about 14 years. I hadn't really played it for a few years, as I am back on guitar, so I figured better him to be coaxing more music out of it than it hanging on my wall! DennisD

I received my new bass today. After doing a minor setup ( intonation and action that's all it needed ) I can't believe this bass. It sounds and looks great.Vintage looking but not orange. Don't know how they do it for $109 dollars. Well I do but we won't go there. I've been playing bass for 45 years and have had a number of real Fenders from 1964 P on up. The last 15 years has been on a Carvin BB75. I do a "one man band" all 1960s RnR & Country. This bass is more authentic to the sound then my Carvin.

At $109 US, you wouldn't want to dwell on how it can be made and sold at a profit. That is actually a fairly dark place. I guess all I can say to us is enjoy our offshore made toys while they are so cheap because after our local manufacturers of musical and so many other products have all gone belly up, the Chinese, Korean and Indian sweatshops aren't going to leave their prices so low...
Anyone remember the phrase "buy your kids a job"?

I do own a $1300 American made bass. I bought this to get that Fender sound for some tunes. I wouldn't have bought a MIA Fender for another $1200.

Not a surprise on the quality. I'm glad yours isn't orange-ish like mine. I will continue to buy guitars from Rondo/SX/Agile as the need or desire arises. Your story is just yet another confirmation of the quality.
