Yes, having the information about what kind of audio interface—if any—would help. Under Options | Preferences | Audio there will be a spot where you can change your driver type. If you are not using an audio interface of any sort you can try changing from Windows Audio Session (or WAS) to MME. It's not a low latency driver but if you're not doing recordings it won't matter. Even if it's just as a test to see if you get the same error it may be worth trying.
