Great production, really works well. And the oohs and ahhs came in just at the right time.

Excellent, kind regards

A cool rocker with clever lyrics. I especially liked the line "Toxic masculinity halo effect" and combining consulting/insulting. And the chorus describes the perplexity of the situation nicely. "What does that mean" keeps haunting in my head after listening... The band has your trademark sound, strong pop guitars and they are mixed to perfection. Great vocals and enjoyable backing vocals. Fun music that makes me feel well-fed.

You song title thief, I have that exact title somewhere in my notes smile

A nice little toe-tapping rocker, excellent mix, and puts a smile on my face.

Chay, thanks for the listen! Yes, "Blind-Sided" would have been an excellent title. Though the lyricist owns the song titling responsibilities in our arrangement, I'll think of this one as "Blind-Sided" in my head now. smile

My finished mixes go to Lurssen Mastering Console to gently shape the overall sound and set the levels. Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time on this step, sometimes under a minute. I spend a LOT of time at the Studio One mixing console building and balancing the sounds. I also use Andrew Schep's rear bus technique in mixing, and have a Waves Abbey Road TG Mastering plugin on the main mix. I'll audition a few interim masters on a variety of sound sources (monitors, headphones, earbuds, auto, etc), tweak in Studio One and resend to Lurssen, where I've saved and reused the song's previous Lurssen settings. I've reached the conclusion that WHAT one uses for mastering is less important than HOW ones uses it, and that listening carefully is the most important step of all. Know mastering can be a journey, so good luck!

Hi Ron.

Wow! This is really good. I love what the two of you have created. Anyone who can rhyme vicinity with masculinity like RW has, is a lyric-writer extraordinaire in my book. Your arrangement, production and performances (BGV and lead vocals) are first class. I was with you all the way.

Hi Ron,

Man, what a great sounding track! Your mix is spot on, pure perfection. Love the arrangement and production too.

But mostly I love the song smile Doesn't sound like CCR to me and I'm not familiar with Rockpile. Sounds like you, and that's a good thing!

Excellent!

Thank you, Rob. Well, I'm a little perplexed that anyone could love my vocals, but...I'll take it!

I always enjoy finding the song in my brother's lyrics. Sometimes I get it 100% right, and sometimes I don't. SOMETIMES I'll turn a single set of lyrics into several musical interpretations, looking for the right one. But on this one, the song I posted is the only song I can hear with these lyrics. The music and lyrics just seem to fit like a glove. I even like the "In the climate change circumstance..." line, if only because it's such a unique but instantly translatable lyric (at least for me).

Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Thanks, David! Yeah, my down-but-not-out interpretation of the lyrics definitely influenced the somewhat jaunty vocal choices. Glad you liked the tune!

Tres COOL.

Thanks, Ray! Have to admit, that boogie guitar is the heartbeat of the song for me, but I understand that's a matter of taste. Not sure what to call my vocal style, but if it lends a "unique twist" and doesn't detract from the song, I'll take it. Ya'll really shouldn't encourage me though...

Deej, THANK YOU for the listen! Only saw Nick in concert once in 1984 when his (amazing) Cowboy Outfit band was opening for Elvis Costello. Lots of high-energy, effortless musicality on that stage that night...

Tom, ha! Stop it, you'll make me hurt myself. I'm a fan of many famous mumbling vocalists, but I'm more influenced by the precise enunciators in my choices for sure. Mainly so the lyrics can be understood without a lyric sheet. smile

Ai unemployed. HA! Well Ri was surely a big part of this one. Love those lyrics, and the driving beat you gave them. Excellent choice of harmony lines. I like how you put them back a bit, unlike, say, The Everlys. The ooze and oz you added were also a great touch. Yep, Real Intellegence throughout. Good mix too. Fun, Ron.

Hey, Marty. THANKS for the kind review. If I could sing like John Fogerty I'd be busking on the wharf of a tropical paradise somewhere. You DID make me check the lyrics to "Lodi" again though. Ha!

I'm not opposed to AI for whatever makes sense, but I'm not tempted by it in the least for songwriting either. One User Showcase reviewer, many months ago, commented on how cool our use of AI was, and it bugged me. We're just two (sometimes three) guys doing things (almost) the old fashioned way. There is of course BiaB. smile

EXCELLENT Mix.

I got so wrapped up in the Production and MIx that I had to go back again to actually listen to the song...

Oozes originality.
Such interesting lyrics. I found that I enjoyed Listening to them without reading the lyric (that was the 3rd listen). That seldom happens.
That points to the combination of melody and words being "more than the combination of the two". Something special.

I've always liked a hanging bridge.

fj

THANK YOU, Floyd! Yeah, my lyricist has a talent for consistently wrapping original-but-likable song ideas in interesting lyrics. Not something I can do for sure.

That's a good observation about how the melody and words combine here. When I get that feeling, I know my part is done.

You've made a really cool song, a great rhythm with beautiful/clever lyrics and fantastic vocals.

Thanks, Noel. Yeah, he's a gifted lyricist, though I try to keep him humble. It's SO hard though...Ha! Glad you enjoyed the tune.

Dave, THANKS a bunch! Rockpile really only had a single album, and it was about 45 years ago. But if you know 'em, well...

Yes, I think I'm destined to sound like me, no matter how hard I try to fight it. smile

Thanks, Scott! Rockpile had a sound that bled over into Nick and Dave's solo work, and saturated my listening for a while. Never sounds old to me. The shift to the #5 sound at the end of each chorus seemed to match the disoriented question of the narrator. I probably overuse that trick, but if it sounds good, then it must be good, right? Glad you liked it!
