I have landed a gig at the Cafe Portofino for this Friday night from 7:30PM-10:30PM.
Anyone in the area please stop by and harass me. I hope it goes over good. It's a high end resaurant with a piano player in the main dining room and then me in the "Piano Bar" Lounge. They've had a 3 piece band with bass, keyboard & congas. never heard but I can guess very poppy. Well I'm a Country guy and also oldies R'N'R. It was a short notice so don't know what to expect. If the local crowd really liked these guys I'll have my work cut out for me. The GM & the Bar Mgr. both listened to my demo and said they liked it so we'll see. In talking last night I get the feeling that if it goes well I may have landed a house gig 2 nights a week.

I just Googled the thing. It's 90 miles over back roads from where I stay in Marietta. I won't make opening night, but if you come back I'll make a point to come see you.

I am happy for you John, i know you will do great. One of these day you need to attach a small stereo recorder to the mixer and grab one of the gigs and mix it up and post some of it for us, and hey maybe make a CD for sale at the gigs. Another cool way to feed our fun machines!

Hey John,
maybe you can be a travelin' band... book gigs all over the state sequentially so you can travel short distances from one gig to the next. Maybe you can negotiate or trade lodging for entertainment. Lots of holiday Inns have entertainment.
Then let me know when you play in the Triad area. (Winston-Salem, High Point-Greensboro) I'll come and help carry equipment.

The gig went real well. VERY nice place. Two things transpired:
1. They no longer want the same band every weekend
2. They want a Country band ( That's me ) for an early off night that will be ladies night with line dancing lessons.
They were very impressed with the appearance and quality of the sound.

One minor thing does need fixing.
I have my computer resolution perfect for the layout I use so can't change that. I were glasses that allow me to see the screen from my sitting position. The crows a blur. Maybe bifocals. I'll have to experiment.
Pat that's a great idea and is in my plans for the future but have to wait a bit before any over night gigs can occur.

Maybe PROGRESSIVE lenses, John.
Made a BIG difference for these old eyes, they did.
Had to learn to raise my head up to see the closer things, like the puter screen, after all those years of looking overtop of the glasses for the close stuff, but once past that hurdle, which only takes about a week, I love them. The eye doc was able to make the top area correct my vision to 20-15, as well.

I've had progressive lenses for 15 years. Got caught a bunch of times not focusing on 'her' eyes when she talked. But they only focus if you move them up and d o w n. Yikes. I mostly needed them for reading and night driving. Now I have a Kobo ereader and don't use them much. Too stubborn. They work. When I was still marching I was wearing them on parade and got a new piece of music. When I tried to look at it I raised my head then my arms trying to aid at the music and fell over backwards. I have a friend who is cash rich and he got a pain with the bi-focal at the top for marching band.

Thanks guys for the suggestions.
A couple of things that also came out at this gig that i wanted to mention.
1. The Kustom KPC15 speakers I bought for $189/pair sounded great mounted on poles. If you're looking for some inexpensive boxes these do the trick. The whole band goes through them & I also play bass live through them with a software Ampeg modeling program.
2. I was using a set list with RB but was having a number of requests so thought I'd try this. I opened PTW and would hit stop on RB and load the request into PTW and play it and then go back to the set list in RB. Just left PTW minimized. Had PTW setup the same as RB.

Sounds like you've pretty much got your stuff covered John.
As to progressives, I have them too but craning my head up to look through the middle of the lenses for computer work was giving me neck aches so I used some old frames that are a bit bigger than the current style for eyeglasses and had those made as bifocals using a combination of close up reading (bottom half) and 30 inch distance computer work (top half). Yeah, a slight hassle to switch them but I work all day in front of a computer monitor and they work great for going from the monitor to reading papers on my desk. A few times I forgot them at home and had to get through the day with my regular progressives and it was a struggle tilting my head back so I could see the monitor clearly. Even using my progressives for close up reading is a struggle for long periods because that part of the lens is so small but they're fine for quick reading like a menu or looking up a number in my cell phone. My bigger bifocal pair has a much larger area for reading. Of course this all depends on just what prescriptions you need for the various distances but for me at least it works great.

I have 3 pairs of glasses hanging around my neck.
1. Reading
2. computer
3. sunglasses
I think what I need to get is bifocals with the computer lense on the bottom & plain glass on the top for distance and to see the audience.
