Hello, forum friends

This song is written for the recording session of our music circle this summer.
I would like to introduce you two versions, which are the live band version and the RealTrack version.
The RealTrack version was made for the lyricist to learn the melody of this song.
I usually prepare a instrumental demo version of the song made in advance with BIAB for lyricists.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Summary of lyrics

Many roses line up at a flower shop in front of the station
A sweet fragrance
The surface of my mind shimmers in early summer
The shop girl turns around

Swaying her ponytail
She is gleefully humming "Waltz for Debby"

Youth is a sin
I'm lost for words, mesmerized by her

She chose a jade brooch
As her birthday gift
Her sign of the zodiac is Gemini and mine is Cancer
She is refreshing our school days

Time passes before I know it
And even if I can never return here again
I'll never forget these days

She has fresh voice,
Earnest eyes, and sweet fragrance
Youth is a sin
I'm madly mesmerized by her

Hi Shigeki!
I listened to your song in this order: RealTracks version first, then the live band version. The instrumental was already very good and I enjoyed the melody supported by the 'skipping' feel of the waltz backing. Then I listened to the live band version, and this version is superb. It caused me to think of all the things that are good in this world. Thank you for sharing and I hope it receives many listens on Soundcloud!

Beautiful work Shigeki! I listened carefully because I love the jazz waltz genre and I’m a big fan of Bil Evans. I liked both versions. I can see how your demo version would be so helpful for the live performance—it gives everything that’s needed to shape the recording and guide the vocalist and players. Excellent!!
I’m wondering—I heard the phrase at the end of the bridge and I immediately recognized it as close to the phrase at the end of if bridge of “Emily”, one of Bill Evan’s best solo pieces—did you intend that?
Great to hear your work again, always inspirational for me!

Shigeki, although the BiaB version was very good you just can't beat live musicians.
Excellent arrangement.
Sounded great.

I haven't lost all of my marbles but there is a small hole in the bag someplace!

Hi Shigeki Adachi.

I've just finished listening to both versions. I really love you work! As I've said a few times in the past, you are a very competent and gifted songwriter and orchestrator. I always find your music inspiring. The jazz waltz genre is one of my favourites. This particular tempo that you've used never stops feeling comfortable and relaxing for me. The strings and trumpet were such a perfect fit.

I listened to you Yamaha friends first of all. They were outstanding. Their interpretation of your work was superb. Then I listened to the BIAB version. With the BIAB version, what stood out most of all to me was how terrific your song sounds as an instrumental. It's a really fine piece of music.

It's another standing ovation from me! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

You do a brilliant job with your demos: great choice of instrumentation, then the arrangement, mix and production are perfect. While it lacks the vocals I prefer it's cleaner feel.

Good groove and production. I liked the jazzy instrumental version a lot. But even more I liked the live version with wonderful vocals! By the way, I woudn't label the genre of this as "J-Pop", but jazz & blues.

Shigeki, this was wonderful. I'm in awe of your achievements. Just love how those strings sound. I wanted them to play throughout the piece, but they did return (I'm hearing that right now). I always love your lyrics, I'll bet they're even better in Japanese. Stellar work as always!

A truly beautiful and smooth song, perfectly arranged, ideal for listening to while enjoying a good French wine in the evening.

Tom,

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
And many thanks for listening to the both versions.
I am really glad you like this tune.
I also love Bill Evans.
About the part the melodies are similar, I sometimes imitate him consciously, and sometimes it's unconscious, in this case it was unconscious.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Best regards.

Hi, Shigeki.

As usual, great music!

The vocals, drums, bass, guitar - all standout performances. Lovely strings, too! I just wish you had a real trumpet to justice to the tune.

The BiaB instrumental was nice, but didn't match the live players. But the guitar playing was especially nice.

I really liked this! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Always a special treat when you post, Shigeki. I first listened to the demo, and it really shows the wonder creativity in the writing. Comparing the two versions illustrates what we already know so well: your strings are the perfect addition. Love the write, the melody, the band and the singer, AND THE MIX.

Enjoy whatever happens!
