Not With a Bang

This is a BIG song about BIG things. I'm not sure exactly what those BIG things are though. I THINK the song is about man's inhumanity to man. At least that's what I based this musical interpretation on.

Or it could be about the Zombie Apocalypse, as fantastical and ridiculous as that is. There IS a zombie lyrical reference, though I assumed that to be allegorical.

Or the subject could be complete nonsense. It's certainly ambiguous. But whatever it is, it's BIG. REALLY BIG.

So...you decide and let me know. PLEASE! smile

THANK YOU, in advance.

Lyrics:

The world is turning like a bowling ball in the machine
Tumbling like the heavy cycle, trying to get us clean
Back and forth, our conversation’s feeling mighty strained
The zombie outbreak now is only partially contained

Solar radiation kicking up a notch or two
The sky at daybreak looking a peculiar shade of blue
The EM pulse and radiation, hard to put us down
Close the windows, lock the doors, let’s all hide underground

Peace, we’ve celebrated it
Piece by piece by piece
Dismantled humanity
The beast is released

The bag of chips is blowing down the street like a balloon
The children kick the can a bit but maybe it’s too soon
Burning tires, like signal fires when everyone’s afraid
Don’t give up, put the pin back in the hand grenade

The band parade marches on in silence like the night
A ghostly visage lumbering under the pale moonlight
A rocket flare might catch our eyes or leave us fighting hope
The Geiger counter clicks upon the fusion isotopes

Peace, we’ve celebrated it
Piece by piece by piece
Dismantled humanity
The beast is released

You’re sitting behind the desk
Barking orders all alone
And then you pick up the Red Phone
And you say Nobody’s Home!
Nobody’s Home!
Nobody’s Home!
Nobody’s Home!
Nobody's Home!

The army tank is stuck upon the marble entrance steps
Outside the tank the bodies are charred like charcoal briquettes
Inside they suffocated from all the poisonous gas
Others in the distance were somehow turned right into glass

The ones that lived were never safe and turned upon each other
And they all had a true self that they would soon discover
The days are long, the nights are longer, never seems to end
Breathe in for a moment as the dust settles on your skin

Peace, we’ve celebrated it
Piece by piece by piece
Dismantled humanity
The beast is released

Peace...

Hi, Ron.

First, nice lyrics.

Solar radiation kicking up a notch or two
The sky at daybreak looking a peculiar shade of blue

and

The Geiger counter clicks upon the fusion isotopes

Sweet! smile

Bright sinister pop with a catchy tune and great arrangement.

No AI? Well then, no pod doors for you. Or Tide pods, I can't remember.

Love it! [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Wow Ron!
I casually pressed PLAY on Soundcloud and got thrown back into my chair!

Two musical elements that stood out to me - when the piano came in and added a great touch throughout - and those BV ooos and aaahs - I am rather fond of those and yours did not disappoint, and I hoped they would return each chorus - and they did!

Regarding the lyrics ... we' ve gone too far down the nuclear armaments path and will one day pay the price - peace has been celebrated (past tense), but now the beast is released. That's my guess anyway.

Regardless, a good punchy song added to the pool of your variety and very likeable to me for the musical reasons above.

Ron,

That's a great piece of writing. Love the big production and the crisp mix. The guitars and piano sound awesome. Love your vocal and its tone against the urgency of the music & arrangement.

"The ones that lived were never safe and turned upon each other
And they all had a true self that they would soon discover
The days are long, the nights are longer, never seems to end
Breathe in for a moment as the dust settles on your skin"

Excellent! One of your very best!

Wow! BIG is right..everything about this is quite large! You got me right from the beginning with those massive chords. I really enjoyed your vocals and the BGVs. The whole thing is so tight and slick. I enjoyed my listen!!

Hi Ron,

Well, this is something different from all your other songs (as far as I know).
Dark, but good lyrics and so well sung! (But you always sing really well).
I'm afraid these words are becoming more and more real...
When I told my sons some years ago that the chance they (and maybe I too) would face war was increasing, they looked at me like I had dementia or something. Not anymore...

Nice play on words with "peace and quiet." I like that.
Let's try to catch the beast(s) before it's too late, Ron!
And your song surely helps...

Hans

Ron, all I can say is WOW! This is so good and unfortunately so true in today's world. Everything about this is perfect and should be on the radio today. I think the chorus says it all:
"Peace, we’ve celebrated it
Piece by piece by piece
Dismantled humanity
The beast is released"

The beast has been released and it is world wide.

Loved it.

I phoned my wife and asked her if she wanted me to pickup fish and chips on the way home.
She just grunted.
She still regrets me naming the twins.

Thank you, David. "Bright sinister pop"...aah, THAT's a genre I can identify with. Very cool, think I'll keep that one.

Yeah, my brother has a way of crafting perfectly natural sounding rhymes that you just KNOW don't get paired all that often. Truthfully, it's a great luxury to be able to focus on the music and not worry about assembling or explaining lyrics. My role as interpreter suits me just fine.

As I recall, HAL's response to the pod door request was "Sorry Dave, I can't do that," or something to that effect. So...watch out!

Very potent lyrics and powerful music in this song! I sometimes wonder if songs like this aren't semi-premonitionary. With a seemingly growing number of national leaders being mega-kakistocrats I'm losing my optessimism! [Optessimism: having a positive view of the future despite a pessimistic view of the present. / Kakistocrat: comes from the Greek kakistos, meaning the worst, thus a kakistocracy is a government composed of the worst. A friend of mine discovered the terms back in the 70s and until a few years ago I never heard the terms used by anyone else, but then Jan Oberg, founder of the Transnational Foundation for Peace & Future Research became a positive acquaintance and he continually uses them!].

The words from you blurb, "AI: Not used. Sorry, HAL. Now, open the pod bay doors" made me laugh! laugh

Some favourite Waoist Adages:

#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Ron,

Well, this song suggests you might think the world has gone crazy in the worst possible ways. I wouldn't argue with that!

That's some strong backing tracks behind a really good vocal. A little different from your normal offerings. Buit it feels good to step out of the comfort zone once in a while. Ya did good!

Terrific production! Reminded me of one of rayc's Doomsday pontifications (a good thing). Also reminded me of "In the year 2525", though musically very different. BGVs were excellent, really fleshed out the production well. Great work!

Ron & R.W.

Excellent use of BIAB Guitars.
Good BAND all around. Love those drums, too...
Solid production and mix.
The piano is tucked in perfectly.

COOL BGVs all over the place.
Nice vocal. Clean and clear. I thought they could use significantly more reverb (for this style music)

"The army tank is stuck upon the marble entrance steps
Outside the tank the bodies are charred like charcoal briquettes
Inside they suffocated from all the poisonous gas
Others in the distance were somehow turned right into glass"

Originality oozes from every pore.

on my 5th listen...

“Solar radiation kicking up a notch or two
The sky at daybreak looking a peculiar shade of blue
The EM pulse and radiation, hard to put us down
Close the windows, lock the doors, let’s all hide underground”

Yikes!

Excellent contemplative lyrics and delivered with the perfect production for the vibe.
And the band? Another fine example of the power of BiaB in talented hands.

The hard hitting mix sounded loud (but not too much so) on the monitors.
BIG soundstage.

Great vocals and the Beatles like sound of the BGV’s was a perfect accompaniment for this anthemic like production.

The big and bold opening and then the stark big ending chord really worked well with the lyric

Powerful and we enjoyed it!

THANKS, Herb! "Catchy" and "punchy" reflect our intent, so very rewarding to hear. I'm lucky to have a great lyricist.

This isn't a style of song I normally post, but we have LOTS of them. Lots and LOTS. I think they're very cool, but they AREN'T bright and cheery. Thought his one was relatable enough given the current news cycle to withstand a listen about charred bodies and such. I mean, it's not for everyone, right? But things that matter can make quality songs, even when they are SO dark.

THANKS again!

Hi Ron,
Great production.
The fat background is exceptionally good.
I'll try it out myself on a song sometime ;-)
Maybe the vocals could have been mixed a little quieter.
But I listened to it on my computer.
Good work, Ron.
Andi ;-)

Thanks, Andrew. Yeah, that piano is part of the RealStyle, but delaying the entry until the 3rd verse served as a nice dynamic push for the rest of the song. Plus it let the electric guitar pair carry the first part of the song without distraction. I find most of the RealStyles to have nicely nested instrument parts, but it's up to the user to decide when they go where.

Glad you liked the BGVs. Used them more than my usual once or twice on this one. The song just seemed to scream for them. One of my favorite parts of producing a song...

Hope the more optimistic projections about the future come to pass, but the fact that it's a conversation is in itself problematic, isn't it? We DO live in interesting, and troubling, times...

Hi Ron,

Well, you had me right from the opening with those BIG guitars wink

Excellent write, and excellent performance, I especially liked the BGV's, very effective. Love the chorus!

Enjoyed this one, listened a few times.

Ahhh man, I didn’t want that song to end…which is a good thing because I’m going to have to listen to it again.

I’ve only been on this forum for a couple of months and I’m staggered by the quality of original songs being produced. Yours is no exception. I’ve just listened to three in a row and they’ve all been great. Your vocal is perfect for the subject matter, it has a raw edge and that’s good, it gives the lyrics gravitas. And the backing harmonies were great, loved the aahhhs. The music and production itself, whilst not hard rock still carried a strength and weight which added to the songs impact and subject matter.

Great song Ron… gonna take another listen straight away.
Kind regards.

Edit… That opening is sensational…and it is hard rock. Love the doubled opening vocals too…man!!
