Trying to get this new computer set up with RB but I am having problems either recording or playing back the vocal I am trying to record. The vocal is completely inaudible when I play it back. You can tell that it is words, but really it is just static that raises and lowers in volume as the vocal raises and lowers. I am using a USB audio interface from Focusrite. I have the drivers set on MME as per 'silvertones'. Since this is different than the ASIO setup I had before, I am clueless as to what special boxes should be checked on the various setup screens. Any help would be much appreciated. I did a search in the forums but couldn't find anything, although I know it is likely there.

Thanks again.

In the screen were you chose the output driver you also need to choose the input driver. You can leave everything else at default for now. In RB click on the VU Icon to bring up the meters. You have to get the audio interface you have set up correctly then get a good level on the meters in RB. If you tell me what your inteface is I'll DL the manual so I can better help you.

What kind of mic are you using?

You're description of what gets recorded sounds suspiciously like what happens if someone uses a Phantom Powered Mic without the Phantom Power on the preamp available.

Or it could be something else entirely, hard to tell from here.

Another cause of distortion, but typically not of lowered recorded volume at the same time, is having your sound device set for anything other than 16/44.1, it is best to leave your sound device "unlocked" such that the host program, in this case, BiaB, can set its sample rate and bit depth automatically when the program opens.

Okay...input and output drivers are set to my device. The setting in RB is 16 Bit 44.1. I am using a condensor mic but the phantom power is on, otherwise I wouldn't get any sound. As rharv indicated, I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB input box. I have MME selected because if I don't, I get an error (listed in the previous post). I also just started getting an error message when I try to play that asks if I want to let a file called ...stom.exe make changes to my computer. If I don't say yes, nothing happens. I don't know if these issues are connected. I am at a loss. Any thoughts?

You have issues beyond RB that sounds like a time to call support.

This sounds like you are running Windows Vista of Windows 7 and the User Account Control (UAC) is active. Have you tried turning UAC off?

Noel

Yes, I agree with Noel on this.

Sounds like User Account Control is turned on.

UAC does indeed cause this error, but I don't recall seeing it when hitting 'Play', only when opening a file or importing/exporting ...

The Stom^.exe window pops up after I record something and I click yes to keep the take. I didn't get that the first few times I recorded using RB on this new computer so it seems odd that I would get it now. The UAC is set to the recommended setting. I haven't changed it. Should I?

As for the distortion, I am still getting it, but I don't think it is a RB issue, but something to do with my computer or the input box because I get the same crazy noise when I test it using Skype.

Any thoughts on either issue?

Thanks for your help everyone.

Oh my goodness, I just had one of 'those' experiences. I packed up all my gear and drove to the store where I bought the input box to see if they would have some input. I pulled out my rig, hooked it all up, recorded a few bars and wouldn't you know the stupid thing didn't distort! Not sure if it was because I used a different USB port or what (one port is capable of USB 3.0 but can supposedly do 2.0 and 1.1), but I came home and was able to replicate the store experience and record with no distortion so I am happy for now. I'm still having the stom^.exe issue that coincides with another problem that I didn't mention. I will explain here and then post as a new topic since it isn't related to the original post title.

Along with the stom^.exe box that pops up, RB is splitting the mono source. It sticks the right side of the recording, which is blank since it is mono, into the track below it, even though there is already something recorded on that track.

I'll repost that issue as I think they are connected.

Thanks for everyone's help.
