On my system there is a problem with low-frequency background ‘beats’ on Realtrack 2336 (Viola, Background, Pop Ev 085). It takes the form of a beat and then a double-beat - in time - although not on every note played. It can be heard on various of the ‘raw’ viola audio tracks relating in the Realtracks folder. In my case vla001.flac and many others in the same folder show the effect clearly. I wonder if it is caused by foot-tapping?

After upgrading to ‘Audiophile’ I no longer have the .wma versions to check if it is present on those.

Wonder if anyone could check their files, please, to see if effect is noticeable, or if I have a low frequency ‘quirk’ with mine?

Can you specify at which exact time the problem occurs?
I just quick-checked vla001.wma, vla001.flac and vla001.wav, and apart from minor playing/recording issues, everything sounded okay.

Hi Allan,

The best way to make sure noise in a RealTrack is fixed is to send an email to support@pgmusic.com.
Freeze the track so you can attach the frozen track to the email. It helps support if you provide timestamps of when you're hearing the noise in the frozen track.
I know in this instance you refer to the raw flac file which is different than hearing the noise in a generated track. However it's possible PGMusic has already identified the noise and instructed Band-in-a-Box not to use the noise portion of the flac file. That's why I mention having a frozen track because that confirms that portion of the flac file can still be used.

Thanks both. The effect is noticeable on vla001.flac right from the start, so useful to know it plays correctly elsewhere. Curiously, the 120BPM version (2510) doesn't have this problem on my setup.

I'll do as suggested and send frozen track to PGM. It does though make me wonder about my computer - have heard that internal system interferences can cause sound oddities and that swopping sound card (Soundblaster Z SE in this case) to a different PCIe slot could make a difference, so will likely try that as well.

Did further checking. Effect is not present when using elderly USB sound card. Tried equally old Soundblaster from spare computer and results had 'thumps' present . Changing card to different PCIe slot didn't help.

Listening more closely, realised that there are definite drum-fills among the thumps! Faint, but there on vla001.flac. Did a stem-split using BIAB and they can be heard, again faintly, on 'Residual' track at around 28" and 45" and possibly elsewhere. The program 'Acoustica' - in 'Remix' mode - splits the tracks with this drum sound more prominent.

My latest theory is that there is a small amount of crosstalk from a drum track on the viola one on original recording. Also, the USB sound card, which didn't produce these noises, is 'gating' very low-level sounds that Soundblaster, with perhaps greater 'noise-floor', is still playing.

Anyway, I'll send the various tracks to PG to see what they make of them!

Did more work on this by installing latest Soundblaster drivers and control panel, which made the 'thumping' effect worse. Checked back on previous driver / control panel combinations, all of which introduced various different oddities. At that point, decided to switch to optical output, which gave a much smoother sound with - for all practical purposes - an absence of thumping. They can still be heard at very low level, together with occasional drum fills, by splitting the tracks, but not at any sort of level to cause a problem.

Spectrum analyser shows these thumps to be between about 50 and 100Hz and, although soundcard was set to front L&R output only, I wonder if it was allowing some of the subwoofer feed - which would be around that frequency - to 'bleed' through.

It also made me wonder - given that these sounds are exactly in time with the music - if they are used as some sort of low-frequency metronome, which would be far less obtrusive than conventional 'click' track that leaks quite readily from performer's headphones.
