Hooray!! I have just created my very first song. That`s the good news. The bad news is when I try to render it to a wave file I get "problem with C:\bb\STOMBBX:EXE`" come up directly after the rendering is completed and I can`t play the song as wave file . I asume it is something basic but after playing around with it for a while fustration is setting in. I am using BIAB 2010, WIN 7 Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Culfy, Welcome to the forums! Congratulations on that "first song" too. The below link will take you to PGMusic FAQ #165. The solution offered there may work. http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq20.htm#165Regards, Noel

Thanks for the tips. I looked at the file and found the compatibility problem and solved this by getting the latest update which installs the coyotewavetableDXi. Yes i should have done this earlier i know. However this has not solved everything. The midi data now renders to wave (successfully, or so it says) but when i play the song in the new wave format (win. media player or nero) only the first 8 bars play and then nothing.

Does that happen with ANY song you render? For example, if you load one of the style demo songs that come with the program, and render it to WAVE, does the wave file have the same problem?

I have just just sat down and checked the miniburn.exe as sugggested earlier and now each time i open BIAB i am requested to allow changes to take place from C:\bb\bbw.exe before BIAB opens. If i allow these changes the problem seems to be fixed. It would be nice to know what this program file is and if can make the changes it makes permanent.

Hi Culfy, That sounds like User Account Control is not letting a work file write to the hard drive. Here's FAQ #100 that talks a bit about this. http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq20.htm#100Have a read under "Windows Vista and 7". I have had to disable UAC on my Windows Vista to get BIAB working properly. Regards, Noel

I have now disabled UAC and BIAB loads perfectly. Don`t know if i want to leave it like this but it has done the trick. Midi to Wave file is working okay too after getting the updates with the coyotewavetable DXi so i am now all set for the next song.
Thanks for all help you are all doing a great job

Culfy,
As I understand it, one of the main features of UAC is not to let the computer automatically write to the hard drive. The purpose of this is to provide an extra level of protection against computer viruses. In theory, if a virus comes along and tries to write destructively to your hard drive, the above aspect of UAC will, in theory, not let it. Typically, the user will be asked to give permission so that the task can proceed. This is particularly useful when multiple people use a computer and some of those people are not very careful or web-wise. From my experience, the trap is that viruses do not have a name that says "I am a virus". The filename is always something that sounds legitimate and thus it's easy to wrongly click "ok" and to give permission for the process to proceed. Also, UAC is not foolproof.
If only careful people use your computer and you have good antivirus software (I use Avast! - it's great and free), you should be ok. I haven't had any problems with UAC being deactivated in all the time I have run Vista (2+ years). I always keep backups of everything important though, just on the off-chance that some computer nasty wins! This includes a full back-up copy of my BIAB installation disk because I run BIAB from the USB drive.
Glad you're onto song 2 now! Good luck with it all.
Best regards, Noel
