OP Allan Morrow Apprentice A Joined: Nov 2014 Posts: 128 London	Have been trying to find a simple way (preferably no more than a mouse click or two) of listening to a melody produced in Melodist using the instrument associated with that chosen melody and then changing to piano for comparison. As an example, if I choose ‘Melody 91’ (Bossa Trumpet) to go to Melody track in the mixer it, of course, plays trumpet. Hoping to get it to change to piano easily, used a Kontakt piano instrument via ‘Plugins’ on the melody track. Had hoped, using melody track plugin’s ‘bypass‘ setting, (right click on VST name for associated menu) that it would switch the Kontakt piano out, returning to trumpet sound. However, it simply mutes the piano sound without enabling trumpet to be heard. Any thoughts please on if this can be achieved easily? I realise there are ways of changing instruments associated with any Melodist melody, but I’d like to be able to listen to melodies produced with intended instruments, then quickly swop to piano sound, and back again.

DrDan Veteran Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 12,961 Wauconda	OK, I confirmed "bypass" does what you claim which is not what you want. So I had to remove the Kontakt VST3 piano. That automatically reset to "default" which brought the trmpet back. That does take a couple button pushes. If I did this alot I would simply copy the midi from the Melody track to a nother track which had the Kontakt piano already loaded. Once you set the Kontact on its own track it should only take a couple clicks to copy and pasted the midi from the melody track. Have you tried this? Noel96 Veteran Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 20,589 Australia	Hi Allan. As Dan above suggested, copying the Melody track to another track seems to be the best way to go. Firstly: Set up your VST instrument on a Utility track (this only has to be done once). 1) Set your VST Piano plugin on Utility track 1. 2) I also set the channel to UT 1 to MIDI channel 1. Secondly: Use Melodist. 1) If you don't want the pre-chosen style to load, make sure the checkbox "Allow style change" is deselected. 2) Generate a Melodist. (As you've indicated, the resulting MIDI melody will be written to the Melody track with the preset instrument.) 3) Copy the Melody Track to Utility track 1. 4) Set the Copy/Move dialogue as shown on the image below. (The "Patch Change" should be deselected so that the Melodist's preset sound is not sent to the Utility track.) This should now work. While there is a bit of setting up involved, once everything is set up, you can generate a Melodist and then simply copy the Melody Track to the Utility Track. It's not necessary to delete the Utility Track before copying a new Melodist generation to it.
