I posted a song on Soundclick, first I was told by PG, rule number 8, NO!! Soundclick told me to remove the song due to copy write rules. I removed from both here and there, but, Superbron posted on page four of off topics, Pink Floyd, Comfortly Numb. Soundclick said they are cracking down on copywrite material and will remove any account that posts cover songs. Any answers to this? Also SuperBron should remove the songs that are or could be songs in question. Not trying to be funny, serious thing here.

This link is what Soundick say about copywrite material. You may have to sign in to your account to see it, cos I am signed in to my account.

The initial blurb says: Licensing of digital cover songs is an evolving issue. So all guidelines below are based on our best understanding of the current copyright law and is subject to change. Please note that our 'music submission agreement' requires you to take care of all required copyrights clearance and payments.
Having said that, cover songs can be posted legally. To post cover songs online you must agree to pay statutory royalty rates to the publisher of the original song. You must pay the publisher on a monthly basis for every download (not stream) .

Re Superbron, PM him and ask him how he did it.

I think BMI, ASCAP, etc. are getting serious about collecting royalties for songs that are being performed on the Internet and other venues. I am friends with a local DJ in my small town. She runs a monthly jamboree and has heard she may have to start paying royalties for songs that may or may not be performed each month.

She also has mentioned several local eateries that have been approached by BMI wanting them to pay and bill them retro-actively for the past 4 years. This of course will either run them out of business or stop them from using live entertainment. Can't say that I agree on this method of collecting. Or even collecting fees for small venues.

I guess the Internet is hurting their business what with all the illegal downloading of songs, which almost everyones does.

This doesn't have anything to do with sound click, but I've noticed that an increasing number of local music venues are advertising "LIVE ORIGINAL MUSIC" . I guess it's their way to avoid being responsible for royalties.

This is an interesting trend, because if it catches on, people like us who use rapid development music software to write original songs will have an advantage over people who play covers

Regarding the inability to post covers on social networking sites, I seem to recall that was discussed when you first started asking about posting songs. There is no public site I'm aware of that allows posting covers, unless you pay a license fee of some kind.

Some people have resorted to setting up a web server on their own computer, then making the IP address known to individuals they want to view the contents of the web address. The disadvantage in this case is that you'd have a dynamic IP address which changes, making any link you post invalid in pretty short order.

There are services you can subscribe to that have a way of assigning a permanent domain name to a dynamic IP address. (Link has more information... )

Yes, I know, you aren't a geek so that info is not helpful... but I post it because others on the forum may find it useful.

I have a few old tunes still on soundclick:

Note that I bought a license to put up my cover of 'Pipeline'.

Note also that I give credit to PG music where it is due.

Local Campground here stopped having music on sat nights cause ASCAP nailed them for exorbitant fees. And I'm in the Appalachian Mountains. Very long arms those guys.

I think the people who wrote songs others decide to cover deserve to get paid when their work is used in any kind of for profit venue. I think the music fees should be factored in to the cost of operations just as the rent, lights, beer, food they serve, etc. Nothing else is free. jmho.

I agree, however how come I can not upload cover songs onto the Internet when I am not being compensated for my work? I believe that if no money is changing hands then one should be able to post cover songs, jmho.

Because, and this is jmho, technically someone does profit from it. Your isp, the website you are posting on, or even the ad supported "free" page is all there for profit for someone. So when a cover is posted someone technically is responsible to pay for the music just like any other for profit venue and some choose not to pay.

Down heah in the great state of Virginia, "Ya'll" is indeed good grammar.

However, Ryszard did not exhibit "proper" Suthin' Grammah in his post, since he used the singular form of the contraction.

He should have said, "ALL YA'LL," which, of course, is the plural.

*grin*
