I searched in the Forum but didn't see this covered.
I wanted to try out how a song would sound modulating up a half or full step in the third chorus.
The song is in the key of E.
I went to F5, and selected "F" in the drop down "Key Signature Change to" drop-down list.
And I selected "3" in the Settings apply to Chorus #" drop down list.
Hit Play.
No change.
Went back to Bar Settings and sometimes "F" was there (greyed out) and sometimes it wasn't.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Doesn't affect MIDI either. The manual is vague on this. May have something to do with notation. Not sure.
I think it's like C F G in the key of C is a 1 4 5. If you change the key to F now the C F G is a 5 1 2

I admit I never tried that -- probably should. But the way I write songs, I've usually got a bridge and a fancy-schmancy ending. Given that, the best way I have found to transpose part of a song is to select those bars (if you have a 3-chorus song, you'll have to Unfold it), and select Edit > Transpose From... To.... That will let you key-change just that part of the song.

I think that the "Key Signature Change" command does just that -- it changes the Key Signature of the song without Transposing the notes. This is useful for Notation at times.

The "Transpose" command is the one to use if you want the song to be transposed to a new key.

Yup, that works. Thanks!

But, as you say, the song has to be unfolded for that to work.

I see it doesn't work on Tempo Change either.

The question is - why not?

PGM ... ???

If you're working from one chorus, you just use "bar settings", insert new tempo until the point which you wish to switch again.

Wonder what happens if you use one big chorus, make changes, then revert to 3 chorus?

Yeah, that's what we said.

The question is - why doesn't it work in the traditional multi-chorus format.

You will need to transpose the last chorus. The key sig change is for notation only, I believe.

The key change feature in BIAB is not a transposition feature. It merely allows your notation to look cleaner. It used to be that you could only set one key (signature) for the whole song. Now, you can change the key signature in the middle of the song, but it assumes you entered the appropriate chords. You can't use the key change command, for example, to modulate a song up a step for the last chorus. You actually have to enter (or specifically transpose) those chords where you want to modulate. But, by using the key change feature, if your song started in "D" and modulated to "E", then instead of the notation showing 2 sharps in the key signature with a bunch of accidentals on the notation for the G's and D's, it gives you 4 sharps in the key signature and removes those accidentals on the notes themselves.

But, you have to enter the appropriate chords (and appropriate notation) for the key of "E" where it happens. "Change Key" isn't going to make those changes for you.

Hope that made sense.

Yes, John, thanks. That does make sense.

But it is interesting that, it seems, the Tempo Change does not appear to work work in a "multi chorus" song.

Would you agree with that?
