Hi All:

Curious to know HOW (within BB) to create an audio file that would include/capture my external synth.

My synth sound is routed to the Line in plug on the back of my PC...so of course, it is audio.

In other words, I'm choosing NOT to use VSTi's or a DX synth of any sort (so obviously rendering as we know it does not apply).

I have a sneaking suspicion that I will have to drag/drop into another sequencer...and record/render from there when I'm ready.

I'm trying to get up to speed on RB...I'd like to become semi-proficient on BB first (if possible).

Judging from what folks here have been able to do with it...uh, I have a LOT to learn.

Thanks,
Eric

you will have to record the audio from your external synth - there's no "bounce" feature available for hardware.

use the RECORD AUDIO in BIAB or probably better in Real Band. send the MIDI output to the hardware synth, then record the audio output from the synth into your soundcard into Real Band.

A hardware MIDI synth must be played back from beginning to end of song while recording a Stereo Audio Track of the performance with the Line Input chosen as the Recording Source. If using RealDrums and Realtracks along with the MIDI, you must also be able to record the WAV output of the soundcard at the same time. Different sound devices handle this differently, might be labled, "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" or something else even more cryptic in the list of Record Inputs (Direct Monitoring is another way of saying this as well...).

That is because the sounds are not stored or created within the host PC, they are external.

So no "Direct Rendering" is possible when using a Hardware Synth.

On the upside, the hardware stuff usually sounds better IMO.

As I suspected...just like my other more familiar DAW (and with my home setup as it is)...when using the synth (my external one that is) in multi-timbral mode...I have to get it sounding right first, then record the whole shabang on one track as audio...then overdub on other tracks later.

In BB, this seem to be doable...I just have to choose an empty track for the overdubs.

Eric

In BB, we have only one "empty track" for recording Audio, the AUDIO track over on the far righthand side of the tracknames.

It is doable.

Many of us prefer to transfer the song over to RealBand at that point and do the recording there. But it is not an absolute necessity to do it this way.

However, you do get the ability to record each sound separately in RB as an added bonus.. Because there are many more available audio tracks.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
