BiaB has not user controlled setting for that, it is permanently locked to 16/44.1
If the OP is using only one RB file that was created with ASIO drivers to test the sound device operation, it may be that the file itself has become corrupted. I recall having one soundfile like that and I never could get it to play without the ring-modulated distorted sound using any of my ASIO drivers. However, switching to MME drivers would allow that file to play. Any files created after that point inside RB would work just fine with the ASIO drivers. Never figured that one file problem out.
The distortion that the OP describes sounds like what ASIO drivers here will sound like if the bitrate is set to something other than the rate of the sound file. That's a clue.
And if the Focusrite is set up to also play Windows sounds, that *might* be what's causing this problem. Windows sounds are at 48KHz and if a Windows sound is called, it might be switching the card over to 48 from 44.1 - rather than attempting to do SRC. But maybe it is not switching BACK to the host program samplerate after the Windows Sound call. Try turning off all windows sounds in control panel as an experiment.

Another idea - some focusrite drivers no longer have an 'ulock' function (which I thought was part of ASIO spec) They claim the driver can do the adjutments from the audio used. May be why he can't unlock it (?) So if it works at 16/44 in BiaB, has the OP tried 16/44 in RB?
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thank you rahv I have checkled the manual myself, the only way of unlocking the card is if you select an unused synch source - from SPDIF ADATS and hte like - innaporopriate here. http://www.focusrite.com/support/liquid/liquid_saffire_56I tried different sampel and bit ratres now, no joy their either. Silvertones: If it isnt real band then whayt does everytrhing else work except RB? OK So there are Asios that do work with Rb but equally there are apps that work withy my Asio INC BIAB.I do n ot get this trouble anyhwhere else except RB. My asio also works with more than one app at a time - both getting sound output. Also in Cubase or any other sequencer you can mix any number of VSTS together with Audio (such as RealTracks)without ever thinking that its an issue, or 'hard' to do. This is what sequencers do. BIAB does not do this, nor does RB here. My guess is its some archiac code that has not been updated in RealBand (maybe inherited from BIAB. Anyways I am still stuck and cannot use RB at all here on a decent system. Thanks for trying folks

This could be a clew to your problem.BIAB & RB uses the ASIO spec as defined by Steinberg. Steinberg has never updated the spec to allow for multiple ASIO clients. Some companies are messing with ASIO specs on there own to provide for multiple outs. Probably what Focusrite has done. You can't expect PG to follow a non traditional spec.

ASIO2, John...
I wish I had one of those focusrites to experiment with.
As it stands, don't know what else the OP should do here.
I'm assuming the OP has tried to see if changing RB to MME drivers works, just to see...

I DL the ASIO 2.2 Spec and to me it still implies single client only.
IV. Host Utility API Reference 1. AsioDrivers Class The AsioDrivers class implements the unified driver enumeration and instantiation on the different OS platforms. However the implementation is currently limited to one active driver. Also it implies that a driver names will have max. 32 characters including the terminating '\\0'.

Hi Mac, for clarity the MME works with RB but the latency is hideously long so I casnt use it to record my TruePianos.

Zee, MME is actually WDM in RB, and there are quite a few folks using WDM with very low latency I would go back and really do some detailed adjustments and make notes as to what you tried. I think with the right setting you could get there with WDM.
