Frankie, i have a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with 2 gig of ram, and my system runs RB just fine. One thing i noticed is that you have 1.5 gig of ram, if the 1800 uses DDR ram like the 2400 does then 1.5 would be a small problem sine unevenly matched ram will sometimes cause the system to revert to SDR, or if the two chips are different speed the slower one will slow down the faster one.

He has enough memory. 2 G is all he could use anyway.
It's the processor in this case that needs more.

Is BIAB limited to 2 GB? Because if not, then he should be able to use the 3.5 GB that XP can address (I'm assuming it's XP).

No, I don't think BIAB is limited. I'm not sure that so much RAM particularly benefits you in BIAB, though it would seem to be supported.

Frankie--

An "odd" ram count like your reported 1.5 gig will force the BIOS to run your ram in "Single Density Mode".

This is simply taking an unneeded performance hit.

With the Double Density ram systems, it is necessary to always have PAIRS OF IDENTICAL RAM installed, both of the same size and type.

Right now, you very likely should have improved performance by removing the half gig stick, assuming that what you have is either two 500mb sticks to make 1gb and then added one more 500mb stick, or perhaps the computer had just one 1g stick by itself.

When the ram count is done as above the Double Density feature means that the 1 gig will actually do double duty, clocking twice per clock cycle - and thus will let your computer run as if it has TWO gigabytes of ram available. This is also nearly twice as fast as when the BIOS is forced to run as single density, even though the actual ramcount looks higher.
